“Take the sound of the stone aging.” At first I thought about this in the geological sense. Then I came to the conclusion that aging basically just means living. So what are stones up to when they live their secret lives when nobody is watching? What’s their sound? I imagined it being something cheeky and a little funky, kind of slow but danceable.

Naviarhaiku - Old Cold Stars

I have lost my way
In a strange town at night, –
A sky of old cold stars.

One of the most celebrated African-American novelists of the twentieth century, Richard Wright discovered haiku during the last eighteen months of his life (he died of heart attack in 1960, aged 52). In such a short time he wrote 4000 poems, and his posthumous book “Haiku: This Other World“ is a collection with 817 of his own favorite haiku.

His daughter Julia once said that haiku for Wright were “self-developed antidotes against illness, and that breaking down words into syllables matched the shortness of his breath.”

Strangetown, At Night (Naviar Haiku 251)

this is my submission for Naviar Haiku 251:

I have lost my way
in a strange town at night
a sky of old cold stars

on location in New Orleans. Created a generative patch in vcv rack using my new favorite modules, Bouncy Balls and note sequencer, from JW Modules. Brought the Rack audio into Reaper through VCV Bridge and further edited with Ambient Reverb and EQ automation.
