Bred in Lahore and based in Berlin, Abibi (she/her) mixes between different styles and genres, jumping between moods, but keeping the dance floor thumping. Not limited by genre, and always trying to take things less seriously than she should, Abibi's sets are a combination of the weird and unexpected — with a dash of familiarity thrown in for good fun. She's the co-founder of Un:seen, an intersectional collective that organises parties, runs DJ peer-exchange workshops and makes zines, with a special focus on building and uplifting the community spirit in the music scene.

For this month's show on @refugeworldwide , I was joined by Un:seen cofounder and OML team member Abibi (@wheresthebeer). It was a very cute show where we dived into slower and more experimental club sounds, ambient, leftfield pop, some bass and some fast tunes too, with lots of new and some unreleased tracks :)

this past year, I wasn’t behind the decks much. I was traveling — both through places and through phases. Floating a little. Absorbing a lot. Somewhere between dancefloors and daydreams, I kept wondering where to go with this set. I played around. got lost. some sets felt off. It was trial and error, intuition and impulse — over and over, until I landed on something that finally made me smile.
In the end, I circled back. back to the sounds that shaped me. the textures that made me feel safe. the energy that made me fall in love with djing in the first place.
this mix is a soft landing. A little homecoming. A warm reminder that sometimes we need to wander off to really find the way back.

I played this set originally for the 10th birthday of my safe space -- Cashmere Radio. I hadn't touched decks or played in front of people for a while, so unlike other times at Cashmere when I've felt comfortable doing my own thing, I actually felt super nervous before playing. I remember one of the keywords of the night was "left-field", and I was worried I'd taken the theme way too literally. I kept frantically telling my friends that I would clear out the floor if I sounded too oddball or wacky. But it's true what they say -- the dance floor is magic, and music can be pure sorcery (and Cashmere is always down to clown). I saw the dancers twist with every new turn the set took, and it gave me the courage to go in a whole array of directions. The mix is a collage stapled together with both new stuff I've been obsessed with and older stuff in my library that I can never let go of -- with a couple of homages to my emo teeny self. Hope you enjoy listening to it, and shout-out to all the dancers at Cashmere that night who melted my nerves away.
