Lychee got their start as a radio DJ for WMFO, Tufts' college radio station, in 2007. Since starting to play out in 2012, they have played alongside artists like Takaaki Itoh, Objekt, Rrose, Legowelt, Claude Young, and Honey Soundsystem. Notes on the Mix //
As someone who often goes super conceptual with mixes, this one was a lot more about capturing a vibe - something sultry and slower-paced and weird that a few recent sets I heard from the dancefloor tapped into (@andrewakanbi and @DJTemporary closer at the last Groovy Groovy, @RussellELButler silky slow peak time moment at their all nighter at @Nowadaysnyc , @Physical-Therapy at Weird Science at @liveatmagickcity on a Sunday night). I felt kind of disconnected from my body and sense of sensuality this winter, those sets really helped bring me back to it compared to a lot of the faster, frenetic music I've been hearing out (not that I don't love that too). I don't think what I played here really matches the style or tempo of any of the sets I mentioned (and I still want to make a ~100 bpm set with a bunch of tracks played at the wrong speed someday, and almost went there for this, but it wasn't clicking for me this time), but it makes me want to move the way those sets made me want to move - slippery, playful, strange, emotional. Sort of a similar tone to my @JuanitasNYC mix back in November."

It helps me a lot to always be mindful of why I DJ, because every now and then I can feel a little burnt out! So for me personally I know that its my way of connecting with others and sharing myself – and really an act of service. So, I try not to ever forget that DJing is an act of self-care for myself - and keeping that in mind is such a good antidote to things like negative self-talk!
