It’s hard to believe it’s been 16 years since Throne of Blood Recordings began. Originally conceived as a platform to release vinyl singles from NYC legends The Rapture, the label has grown and evolved into a stalwart of leftfield electronic music and a launchpad for some massively influential artists including Daniel Avery and Bicep.

We’ve never needed an excuse to celebrate, but hitting this milestone has made us contemplate our place in the world, reflecting on the relationships that have made Throne of Blood such an integral part of our lives and our legacy as an incubator for tomorrow’s most remarkable artists. So we’ve put together a series of anniversary EPs that bring our past and future together on the dance floor.

The first of four releases, Anniversary EP #1 features longtime friend and label collaborator Chloe Thévenin of Parisian powerhouse Lumiere Noire Records, label manager Max Pask in collaboration with Tigersushi mainman Joakim (for the first time since their killer edit of Evan’s Pyramid for Cultures Of Soul), NYC techno mainstay and Bunker affiliate Justin Cudmore, and Liona, a wildly talented producer from Ulaanbaatar.

Four musical points of view with one goal in mind: making people dance. And there’s loads more to come…

Jelle Meeuwsen is also known as Poko Poko in his home country of Holland. He is part of a new generation of artists, committed to the development and furthering of house music as both a culture and an artistic expression. His past releases have included a few highlights before reaching Percebes's catalogue, namely as a fellow artist for Tomorrow Is Now, Kid! - the Amsterdam based label who's studio housed Ka§par and Helder Russo as resident artists for years.

From a shared sense of respect and artistic complementarity, Jelle reached out with new material and Percebes had no chance but to develop and release it as the amazingly emotional "Deambolar".

"Deambolar" is Meeuwsen's first for Percebes Música, and a deeply personal release that relates and describes hard moments and their overcoming through resilience and courage. "Desolate" is a beautiful track that soothes with it's driving beats and melancholic feeling - like crying on the dance floor, thankful that you've made it out of that relationshjp in one piece. "Flood" is a sublimely arranged piece of dramatic and epic house music, a clear barrage of sentiment, introspective anger and the force to overcome, while "Swashbuckler" is a hot acid number with a huge break beat intermission that is sure to rock many a demaning floor.

The Ellipse Records project was born out of two common goals with Houseum Records: sharing music and putting forward promising artists. This sub-label highlights a new music library that oscillates between electro, breakbeat and ambient. The releases will combine exploration and texture through the symbiosis between artistic covers and sounds.

Here is the 3rd release of the label, produced by Aiden Francis who already has his own release (HSM009) on the main label Houseum Records. Sourcing influences from 90s Tech, house, trance and breaks Aiden Francis' pure passion for underground electronic music radiates through his music and DJ sets. Effortlessly drifting between different sounds and aesthetics, Aiden has managed to break himself free from the constraints of genre so that his true creative prowess can be flexed in full.

Valencia's Nacho Marco has an incredibly impressive back catalogue, with releases on brilliant labels including Freerange, Plastic City, Lazy Days, Ovum, We Play House and his own excellent Loudeast imprint too. Now added to the list is the irrepressible Chiwax, with his “The 909 Files" EP. 

Each track is simply titled 'File 1' through to “File 4“, so let's kick things off in the usual order. "File 1“ is a powerhouse of percussion and keys, with an almost Reese-esque bassline rumbling underneath. The weight of the kicks and the metronomic rattle of the rimshots thunders the track along, making this a very impressive opener. 

“File 2" slows the BPM down a few notches, the drums are again super-heavy (being from the 909, as the EP title gives away), but this time the keys take a softer approach, with glorious floating pads underpinning the mellow mood here. A wonderfully woozy closer to the A-side. 

Flipping over for “File 3“ on the B-side, the 909 is joined by our old friend the M1 bassline, with clipped vox parts adding to the energy pulsing through the track. Swinging along in a fashion reminiscent of classics such as  Kerri Chandler et'al, this is a superb straight-up warm house jam. 

Rounding the EP off, “File 4’"is built around a stabby church organ riff which nags away throughout the track, the punchy percussion and tinkling chords coming together in a swirl of joyous depth for the dancefloor. The bassline chugs away with its neat bounce, echoing the thump of the unmistakable 909 kicks, closing the EP off in the style it maintains throughout, namely exquisite dancefloor-driven house music which has a real timeless quality.

Italian selector and producer Matisa released her first EP into the world last year via Optimo Music and introduced us to her Italo Disco-influenced productions. She now follows it up with a contribution to Sleep D's Butter Sessions new V/A Come Together, a five track EP that pulls in artists they've connected with both locally and internationally. Matisa's opener 'Gabardine' continues her appreciation of the Italo sounds that permeated her last release, crafting a punchy house number carried along by a hypnotic bassline.
