I'm still getting to know the Osmose but wanted to force myself to create a patch and record a piece with the instrument. In this patch two static oscillators, slightly detuned, are fed into two filter banks panned hard left and right. The key pressure contracts the spread of the resonant frequencies of the filter banks. This performance consists of a single slow key press moving as smoothly as possible given my aging joints.

Disquiet Junto Project 0600: Reaching Out
The Assignment: This is a shared sample project. Rework a set of seven WAV files provided by Marcus Fischer.

Loaded everything into a sampler and started playing around with slices and layers until things started to form.  Set it up so I could mix and tweak each sample live and then hit record.  I ended up using the following samples in the final track: worn_path, psu_stairs, walking, and nacre_voit,  No other sound sources added.  Recorded directly to a stereo file with no post processing.

REIN (Rhaeto-Romanic for the river Rhine) speaks of severe challenges threatening the Rhine and other rivers due to climate change and drought. Rivers are vital arteries, and this music reflects on their life-sustaining essence, and the environmental precariousness of the world, we currently live in.

REIN has been commissioned by ZeitRäume Basel for the Basel Sinfonietta.

Yaakov Klein is a lecturer, musician, and the author of "The Story of Our Lives", "Sparks from Berditchov", and "Sunlight of Redemption"(Feldheim). He lives in London with his wife Shira and their three children, where he heads Eilecha, an organisation dedicated to fostering greater religious depth and spirituality in the local community and beyond through classes, immersive events, and trips.
