Having served up some of the finest techno slabs of the past decade through the likes of Sandwell District, Stroboscopic Artefacts and now their own dedicated imprint, Eaux, Rrose steps in the series with a bonkers mix of dusty techno hustle-and-bustle, neatly alternating sequences of pumping 4x4 aerobatics, searing, noise-adjacent outbursts and eerie melodies to hypnotic effect. A constant balancing act of raw power and haunting score, Rrose’s RYC mix takes us on a deep and fascinating trip into genre-unbound territories, where only abandon and wildness reign supreme. Next up in our mix series is Loek Frey, out of Amsterdam, an artist operating from an elusive abyss. Immune to external constraints, the OQAD label head is paving the way for a newfound sound within contemporary electronic music. While performing either as DJ or live, during peak time or sit down - Loek never fails to channel his liminal space of frequencies, resulting in appearances at places such as De School, Ankali, and Tresor. His productional oeuvre covers infinite tempos, lengths, and moods, which he manifests through his OQAD imprint and releases on labels such as Omen Wapta.

In this mix, Loek takes on a mind tickling trip both for the mind and body. Whether it’s IDM, techno, drum-and-bass, or breakbeat, Loek manages to fuse an unmatched sonic spectrum into a distinctive aesthetic at the collision point of the organic and mechanic, with a sound design through a razor-sharp minimalistic scope.

Very excited to share this set, recorded live at the Colorfloor of Lofi during Coda on the final day of ADE 2024. The warm and smokey colorfloor set the tone. A mysterious and intimate atmosphere that I wanted to translate into this 3-hour journey.

I began with lighter, fast-paced rhythms, gradually adding layers of darker soundscapes and heavier kicks. As the set progressed, I switched to a more entrancing energy, building up to an atmosphere that felt both groovy and hypnotic. An ideal handover to Kia and Reptant, who followed after me.

2024 has seen Ntogn playing all around the world at institutions such Vurt, Tresor, La Vallée Électrique and Modem Festival, plus releasing a very fresh EP ‘Alive’ released on his own Tome records. 

This year’s Midwinter mix features cinematic samples interspersed with his renowned hypnotic sound providing the ideal soundtrack to this weekend’s winter solstice.
