Yasmine became known with Soapkills, the duo she founded in Beyrouth, which must have been the first indie/electronic band to appear in the Middle East. The music of Soapkills quickly became the soundtrack to the vibrant, young arts scene which developed in postwar Lebanon, the band gradually acquired an emblematic status and, to this day, Yasmine is considered as an undergound icon throughout the Arab world.

Yasmine moved to Paris a few years ago, and started working with Mirwais (who was part of French electronic new wave band Taxi Girl in the 80s, and produced/co-wrote Madonna's "Music" as well as the "American Life" album). Under the Y.A.S. moniker, Yasmine and Mirwais recorded the "Arabology" album, which came out in 2009.
 
After collaborating with CocoRosie for a while, Yasmine teamed up with Nouvelle Vague mastermind Marc Collin to create her mesmerizing, self-titled debut album "Ya Nass".  

Yasmine Hamdan has started performing her new repertoire in concert, with a band which includes Marc Collin and two other musicians. They've recently played several shows in Cairo, where the enthusiastic crowd reception and the intrigued media reactions confirmed the uniqueness of Yasmine status in the region.

Yasmine will appear in Jim Jarmusch's upcoming movie, she plays… herself, and is featured singing a song she wrote for the occasion ("Hal", which is featured in this album). Yasmine's tracks have repeatedly been used in films, sometimes with unexpected consequences: she met her husband, brilliant Palestinian filmmaker Elia Suleiman, after he used two Soapkills tracks in his award-winning movie "Divine Intervention"…

16 artistes d’aujourd’hui, venus du monde entier, revisitent, en versions inédites et
dans leur langue natale, l'oeuvre intemporelle et sans frontière du maitre à
moustache !

Suite au superbe accueil, public et critique, de la compilation "Brassens, échos du monde" (parue en avril 2011), et dans laquelle on retrouvait trois inédits (dont celui de Danyel Waro), le label Fanon poursuit son travail de défrichage créatif autour de l’oeuvre de cet artiste français majeur du 20ème siècle. Dans le premier tome, Fanfare cubaine, jazz polonais, maloya réunionnais, swing new orleans, folk russe, musique 8 bit montraient l'universalité des thèmes et des mélodies de Brassens.
"Brassens Echos d’aujourd’hui" n’est pas un simple volume 2. Pour Emile Omar co-programmateur de Radio Nova et concepteur du projet), l'idée était de souligner encore un peu plus le caractère intemporel de cette oeuvre en proposant à des artistes étrangers contemporains qui ne connaissaient pas forcement Georges Brassens de revisiter une chanson du répertoire à leur manière, tout en les accompagnant dans la direction
artistique. De l’Argentine au Liban, en passant par Haïti, la Mongolie, la Colombie, l’Angleterre, le Brésil, la Suède, les États-Unis, Trinidad… chaque artiste chante dans sa langue et sa musique ce qui donne à certaines interprétations un côté surprenant et totalement inédit.
Au total, seize morceaux, créés exclusivement pour cette compilation, qui mettent en évidence la modernité et l’intemporalité de cette oeuvre unique. "Brassens, échos d'aujourd'hui" s'inscrit dans la dynamique du jeune label explorateur Fanon records.

Aux commandes, Emile Omar (encore lui !), avec la minutie d’un artisan passionné, mène des projets sonores à l’esthétique pure et aboutie. Roseaux feat. Aloe Blacc, projet en licence chez Tôt ou Tard sorti en novembre dernier en est le parfait exemple. Ces chansons/reprises sont des trésors qui ont atteint les sommets de vente, preuve que les oreilles du public ont toujours besoin de beauté.

Yasmine Hamdan was born in Lebanon, and has lived in the Gulf countries and in Greece. After moving to Paris, Yasmine wrote and recorded the "Arabology" album with musician/producer Mirwais (of Madonna fame), under the Y.A.S. moniker, and also collaborated with CocoRosie for a while. 

Yasmine Hamdan then joined forces with Marc Collin (Nouvelle Vague) to write and produce her first solo album (for Kwaidan Records), which came out internationally (in a revised version with five new tracks) in 2013 on Crammed Discs, under the title Ya Nass. 

Her lastest solo album, Al Jamilat, will be released on March 2017 on Crammed Discs and is produce by Yasmine alongside UK producers Luke Smith & Leo Abrahams.

Yasmine Hamdan est née à Beyrouth. Elle passe une partie de sa vie entre les pays du Golfe et la Grèce. Elle est considérée comme une icône underground à travers le monde arabe, depuis ses premiers pas avec SoapKills, le duo emblématique qu'elle avait fondé à Beyrouth, l'un des premiers groupes indie/électroniques à voir le jour au Moyen-Orient, dont la musique a accompagné les jours et les nuits de la jeune scène artistique qui a fleuri après la fin de la guerre au Liban.

Après s'être installée à Paris, Yasmine collabore avec Mirwais (l'ex-Taxi Girl, producteur d'albums de Madonna), avec lequel elle fonde l'éphémère projet Y.A.S et enregistre "Arabology", ainsi qu'avec CocoRosie.
