'Downtemporal Shift' @ Little Collins CBD

On September 20th, 2024, the Cornstore Mall in Galway was transformed into 'Otherworld' - an interactive exhibition bursting with multi-dimensional art spread across two areas: Ireland's mythical past and our shared future of actualisation among the stars

Overseen by the Tuatha Dé Danann and other cosmic entities - guests were invited to dance between worlds. Revelling in tribal jubilation before continuing on a technological and self-affirming voyage through a wormhole of psychedelic sounds and sensations that deconstruct the notion of genres and reality itself. 

Step into the Otherworld. Merge with the cosmos. Dance with a space squid. Become one with the machine.

'Otherworld' was the result of Arts Council funding and the shared vision of a multi-diciplinary team of artists - brought together by Kegs and hosted by Outset Gallery.

The third edition of Yawlag Collective St. Patrick’s Day featured the legendary John Daly for an extended vinyl set in the atmospheric Kennedy's Backstage - Galway's hidden gem for club culture🍀 

One of Ireland’s most revered DJs and producers, John Daly has been shaping the underground since launching Feel Music in 2005. His genre-spanning sound – somewhere between techno, disco, house, and dub – has made waves on further labels like Wave Music, Mule Musiq, Drumpoet Community, and Clone. From New York’s Cielo to Berlin’s Berghain, his sets are truly immersive journeys, and this special vinyl-only performance was nothing short of an exhibition.

This is a long time in the making. I've always been transfixed with parallels, opposites, light and dark, happiness and sorrow. This mix encompasses how I can feel in a single day, being highly sensitive, an embodiment of the trials of being. A sum of of extremes. It is experimental and emotive, chilling and spooky yet ethereal and joyous. Conveying that both are never too far removed from each other. This is deliberately jarring at times, screechy, booming. I tried to replicate the feeling of space by riding hard bass lines over each other, sometimes into the red to achieve that effect. Slightly off beat to create a Gallop, an urgency, a swing or a groove. 

The contrast of light and dark, soft and hard, fast and slow is apparent throughout, often sharp and sudden, sometimes seamless and barely noticeable. All juxtaposed with intent and purpose. This was recorded in my cans, without speakers, raw, with a few "mistakes", this wasn't about achieving the perfect mix. This was sheerly about expression, many of these tracks have sculpted me as a DJ, and i aspire to be able to create such masterpieces soon. 

Burial has had a massive impact on me. From the moment i heard Endorphin, I was hooked. It creates such emotion, it felt like I had been transformed into song, me, a personification of this production by Burial, chilling, soft, provocative, jarring euphoria, perfectly imperfect.

I've been accruing these tracks since 2008. I compiled them into a playlist, fully unprepared, having never tested them out together, so it's quite stripped back, not overly heavy on FX, but definitely hit my stride on a few occasions.

Marlon is a British DJ and producer based in London renowned for his "slightly spacey, casually jazzy, and fully groovy house music."

He's spun in some of Europe's best venues, including PIKES in Ibiza and fabric, as well as providing remixology support for names as illustrious as Kyle Hall, Jimpster, S.A.M and Cezar Lazar, not to mention an EP on Phil Weeks' legendary Robsoul label. His latest production sees him reworking Colm K ft Elaine Dowling's 'Basics', out earlier this month, and to celebrate that - as well as for the general hell of it -he's done us a cracking mix of his favourites, old and new.

We’re thrilled to welcome the visionary behind Neovinyl Recordings and Aterral. With a solid and enduring presence in Berlin’s house music scene—where he’s been based for over a decade—his influence runs deep. Known for his dynamic DJ sets that blend styles and moods seamlessly, he consistently captivates audiences both in Berlin and beyond.

His impressive discography includes releases on respected labels such as Shall Not Fade and Classic Music Company, among others. Beyond his work as an artist, he has played key roles behind the scenes for various imprints. Most recently, he has been collaborating with Saudi Arabian label Gabu Records, where he’s made remarkable strides in connecting the Saudi and European electronic music communities.
