That's right, you read that correctly! Wayward has a new home at F8 in San Francisco (after the heart-breaking closure of our old home Wish Lounge during the pandemic). F8 has welcomed us into the fold to do what we do best -- play some thumping, playa-inspired beats, and keep those booties moving and grooving! Our first official event was a proper return to form after a 17 month hiatus. It was a privilege to have alKemiss eriKa, All-in-one Mighty, and The General grace our decks for our first event!

Here is my closing set from that night, with a lot of thumping, groovy, driving beats, with a healthy dose of dark disco, and some proper deep playa vibes!

Wowowowowowwwww what a night! I had the privilege to play a fundraiser for one of my favourite Burning Man crews, the Salty Jacks, at their fundraiser on June 4, 2022. It was an incredible night with amazing people and amazing vibes, and I joined a lineup of amazingly talented DJs, including local legends Mark Slee and Rachel Torro! Salty Dune

On Feb 16 2023, we had our second Wayward event of the year. Events at this time of year can sometimes be hit or miss, as some folks are trying to carry forward healthy New Year’s resolutions, while others get caught up with yet another Hallmark holiday. But that definitely wasn’t the case this night! 

We had a solid turnout from the very beginning until the very end, with a packed dance floor and good vibes as far as the eye could see! Every one of my guest DJs (Count, Ober, and Gav) were completely dialed in, with excellent track selections and flawless mixing.

This was my closing set from that night. I’m quite pleased with it, and I hope you enjoy it as well ❤️

The March 2023 edition of Wayward coincided with St. Patrick's Day, and we certainly had a little luck o' the Irish! It was an exciting event, with Ogan (f.k.a. The General) playing his first ever live set! Wayward regular Friedlander graced the decks with his signature dark melodic beats, and Mike Hays took us on a trip through the cosmos with our first ever dub techno set! There were multiple competing events that night with some heavy hitting international artists, but we were fortunate to have had a solid turnout all night. What an incredible night! I was invited back to play a set for one of my favourite Burning Man crews, the Salty Jacks, at their annual fundraiser on June 3, 2023. For those of you counting, yes, it was my three-peat! The Jacks found us an incredible space in Chinatown, where we all got dressed up in our disco best and had a wild night of dancing and good vibes! Here is my opening set from the Outerlimits Festival at The Great Northern SF, over Memorial Day weekend 2023.

So... Time for a confession. I've been DJing in San Francisco for a good while now, and over the years, thanks to the support and encouragement of many many friends within the electronic music and Burning Man communities, I've had the opportunity to play at least once almost everywhere in the city that I've ever wanted to. But there was always one stage that kept eluding me. The main room at The Great Northern (and at Mighty prior to that) was my great white buffalo. 🦬

Wayward at F8 // Jan 2024

The February 2024 edition of Wayward was a blast! I got to open the night, and warm up the decks for frequent collaborators Nick Granado (@hiiamlaus) and Ogan (@oganic), and fellow Montrealer Miss Lupin (@djxime) closed out the night for us!

Wayward at F8 // Feb 2024

This past visit to the Black Rock Desert in 2023, my wonderful friends at the Groundswell camp invited me to come play a guest set on the Kuker art car. As anybody who knows me can tell you, DJing on art cars and DJing at DeMentha are my two very favourite things to do at TTITD, so naturally I jumped at the opportunity. This was the set I played that Tuesday night in the deep playa. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. Hope you enjoy!

On the eve of St. Paddy's Day, I joined a group of fellow degenerates in a warehouse in the outskirts of SF to throw an epic rager. We had killer sound, awesome lights and lasers, and a highly curated group of attendees, all within two degrees of separation. Wayward: Summer Daze 2019.06.20

This is a particularly special set for me. After a mishap on the playa, I was on crutches and in a fair amount of pain. Knowing that my participation in the burn was severely limited for the rest of the week, I got up on the stage with the help of my camp mates and played one of my favourite sets in recent memory. Two ibuprofen and several mojitos later, I was dancing in the DJ booth on my one good leg, and carried that smile for the rest of the week.

Many thanks to my partner, my camp mates, and the oodles of friends and strangers who helped out before, during, and after this set! My body may have been busted, but my heart was full 💚

A few weeks back, the Robot Ears crew invited me to play the lounge at F8 for the San Francisco debut of French techno selector Anetha! It was a great opportunity to share decks once again with my homey Sean Raya as we took over the back room.

Stylistically, this set is a spiritual successor to my Wednesday set from DeMentha at Burning Man 2019. Very spacey, cosmic, bouncy, and driving beats to get that posterior moving. I hope you like it!

Friends and fam, to celebrate my 41st revolution around the sun, here is my Rotations mix! It's a snapshot of the styles of music I'm really into these days, and I really took pleasure in putting this together. It's also almost exactly 5 years since my first time performing at a club (at F8 in San Francisco, June 2015), so in a sense it's also a bit of a time capsule for me. I hope you enjoy listening and dancing to this set as much as I did making it! I also included my first ever produced track, Kuiper Belt. Originally recorded in early May, but life happens...

Rotations

Yaz is a San Francisco-based DJ who enjoys playing tech house, deep tech, minimal, and techno. He is an active member of the Burning Man community and underground house/techno community in San Francisco.

Yaz has played all over San Francisco at all the major venues, including Public Works, Mighty / The Great Northern, Monarch, Midway, and Halcyon. He was a resident DJ at the venerated Wish Lounge for 5+ years, running his monthly Wayward party right up until the pandemic caused Wish to close. Once it was safe to do so, he has taken Wayward to its new home F8 Nightclub, and has been a resident there since August 2021. 

Yaz has collaborated with many different promoters and labels, and has opened and closed for (or shared billing with) well-known artists including John Digweed, Bob Moses, The Scumfrog, Tommy Four Seven, John Monkman, Technasia, and Marques Wyatt, to name a few.

His love for Burning Man is only rivaled by his love for music. His styles go from deep tech, minimal and techno to indie dance. You can find him on the playa playing for his camp DeMentha, and everywhere else for The Janky Barge, Airpusher, and Icarus. Yaz has also participated in many fundraisers in San Francisco for the aforementioned camps, as well as DISTRIKT, Mayan Warrior, the Salty Jacks, and others.
