After a long stretch of darkness there was this one morning that had me waiting for my train at the platform. Things felt grey and blurry, and as I tilted my head the sky opened, and it looked kind of weird with the sunbeams cutting through the clouds, painting them pink and blue and yellow. “Oh, a paper sky!”, I thought. The words stuck, music and lyrics came later.

Lyrics:

A whole lot of mud got stuck on my wheels
But I know how to act when the rush isn't real
Fake it all and tell your friends you're hyped to perform

Why, it's a spiritual thing when the work isn't worth it

Brighton-based electronic pop duo Sock Drawer return with “Bored” a woozy, slow-burning dream-pop track set in a parallel universe where they’re rich, famous, and finally on tour. In reality? They’re just... bored.

One of the earliest tracks written for their upcoming debut album, “Bored” began as a stripped-back acoustic tune—a half-baked escape plan rooted in a fantasy trip to Amsterdam. That trip never happened, but the daydream stuck. Over time, the song grew into a layered, sample-heavy voyage through inertia and imagination. Guitars pulse with restless energy, drum loops stutter and swirl, and the final section bursts into a euphoric 4-to-the-floor outro—a pop-fuelled hallucination of a tour that never was.

Vocalist Ebony Grace reflects on being a tourist in your own life adrift, daydreaming, and disconnected. “‘Bored’ is set in a kind of parallel universe—by the end of the track, we’re on tour and rich and famous. But really, we’re just daydreaming on the sofa,” she says.

It’s escapism disguised as a pop song—or maybe the other way around.

BORED (

with "DEEP CUT", we wanted to capture the generational experience of love in the aftermath of heartbreak. 

it’s about how quickly we move on 
[ or pretend to ] without ever really processing what broke us in the first place.

the song embodies our emotional vulnerability: how we only open up during the late hours, when substances or distractions make everything feel easier. 
but it’s never a real solution, is it?

and it’s only then that we realize the weight of the past still lingers. we carry unhealed scars into something new and without even noticing, we pass them on to each other in a vicious circle.

and in the end, the person we hurt the most might just be ourselves.
