Puddle 

비가 내려 종일 집에 있는 날이면
내 자신이 마치 마르지도 흐르지도 못하는
물웅덩이가 된 것 같습니다

가만히 가만히 고여가다 보면
내 좁은 마음은 어느새 벅차올라
바짓단을 적실 듯 범람하고 맙니다

그럴 때 제가 할 수 있는 일이라고는
침수 되어가는 바닥에 납작하게 드러누워
숨이 막히기 직전까지
하염없이 내리는 비를 바라보는 일뿐입니다

하루 종일 누웠지
I’ve been lying down all day

비가 내려 좋았지
It was nice to see raining

세상이 흠뻑 젖지
The world is soaking wet

나는 혼자였지
and I am alone

누가 괜찮냐 물었지 이런 나에게
Someone messaged me if I was okay

괜찮다고 적었지 문자 메세지에
I wrote back: “l am doing fine”

난 핸드폰을 껐지
I turned off my cell phone

대충 아무 데나 뒀지
and left it somewhere.
 
나는 하루에 한 번씩
A little pill once a day,

작은 약을 삼켰지
I swallow it down

이제 쌀쌀해 밤공기 
Night air is getting chilly

콧물이 나네 환절기
I have runny nose, because the season is changing

날 괜히 훌쩍거리도록 만들었지
It is making me whimper for nothing
 
시간은 나를 당겼지
Time pulled me tight

어느새 밤이 왔던지
and without noticing, the night has come

오늘 내리던 가랑비
It’s been drizzling all day,

내일도 왔음 하였지
I wish it would be the same tomorrow.

지금이 대체 몇 시
What time is it now?

밖에서는 며칠째 
It's been raining outside for days

비가 내려 나갈 수가 없지
so I can't go out
 
걔는 괜찮을까 문자를 적었지
I texted him to see if he was okay

좀 지났을까 괜찮다 적혔지
After a while I got a message back: “I am doing fine”

전화해볼까 고민
I thought about calling him

아냐 핸드폰을 껐지
 No, instead I turned off my cell phone

만약 이렇게 한 번씩 
If I don’t get in touch with him

연락 안 하면 혹시 
once in a while like this, may be he will….

걔가 더 아프다면 나 역시
If he gets sick even more,

아플 것 같아서 가끔씩
then probably I will feel sick, too, so….

전화 걸어 비가 조금씩 내릴 때면 
I call him whenever it begins to trickle.
 
해가 지고 달 떴지
Now the sun goes down, the moon rises up.

내일도 비가오면 살포시
If it also rains quietly tomorrow,

문자 메세지 걔한테 할거지
then I’m going to text him again.

내일도 왔음 하였지
I wish it rains again tomorrow
