The very first time I went to a minimal, synth, and wave party was in Berlin many years ago and I remember it so well, because I was wearing white. It was absolutely not the right color, and like being in a time capsule. There are many explanations why black is the primary color in this scene, I like to relate it to the often melancholic character in the music. Interesting that the 'dark' scene loves Italo Disco, too, or at least some tracks. I hope you enjoy the mix, and thank you Rune for asking me to make a mix for you. I asked you, what do you want, you said 'underground'. This is a selection of my vinyl for it........

The mix was recorded in the heart of Sisyphos, during a heavy rain storm just before the start of the party. More for home listening than dancing, a spacious trip through roughly 20 years of timeless synthesised music. Combining some of my older favourites with current ones. Mostly sourced from vinyl and with a focus on sounds you could find at Clone in Rotterdam. There are a couple of vocoder tracks, the robotic & rolling basslines, the stepping and raw rhythms and some solo synth flourishes. Stylistically I wanted to collect some sounds in anticipation of some kind of electro revival that probably will never happen, but you never know with the cyclical nature of music ;)

Heres part two of what obviously have become and may be a continous mix series. You know the drill - Only swedish productions and vocals. New wave, rock, Italo and so on.

Following the sung swedish hero «Foppa» tribute it’s now time to send another to one of the unsung ones. Christer Petterson was a swedish crimimal and drunk addict who fell into the spotlight being arrested and later convicted for the shocking murder of the swedish prime minister, Olof Palme in 1986.

Just a few months later, however, Pettersson was freed on appeal. The court cited a lack of evidence, including the missing murder weapon, and raised questions over the reliability of Lisbet Palme's identification. Pettersson was awarded about $50,000 in compensation.

Although Pettersson appears to have quickly spent the money on alcohol and drugs.

Starborough has been involved in the Westcoast Sound of Holland scene around Cybernetic Broadcasting System and IntergalacticFM for almost 20 years, organising parties, hosting radioshows and running the now defunct Radio Galaxia channel for IntergalacticFM. With his broad selection of classic house, electro and disco tracks he rocked dancefloors in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Dordrecht. He played online for Rotterdam's Operator Radio, Amsterdam's Red Light Radio, Nijmegen's Radio NUL and most importantly: IntergalacticFM. Starborough’s carefully constructed deejaysets combine the swing of soul and funk with the mechanical push of house and electro, with some Italian melancholy thrown in for good measure.
