This native Italian & Berlin based duo needs no introduction. Mind Against started in 2011 and barely 3 years later they are on the crown jewels of the Life and Death label after showing their incredible studio skill. In 2012 and 2013 they also composed several remixes for, amongst others, WhoMadeWho, Art Department, Róisín Murphy, Green Velvet on labels such as Kompakt, Cocoon Recordings, and Vakant.

Mind Against’ sound is very difficult to describe, but we dare to say that the mixture between house and techno appears to sound very deep, trippy and provocative. When they play it’s a sure thing that one can lose themselves in the music and travel to distant universes while dancing.

It’s that time again, finally time for a new Adventures of Soul Clap Podcast! This episode comes from an old friend, the first person to ever book us in Amsterdam in fact (and at the legendary Trouw no less), DJ Melon. But before we ever even met, we were playing his dancefloor groovin’ Je Dàvu edits like I Need You Tonight and Music Got You Movin’ at our gigs all over Boston and soon the world.

Melon sure is one funky Dutchman, and his DJ sets take you on a ride through some serious booty moving funk, disco and house. So when he offered up these two awesome edits for Soul Clap Records we jumped at the chance and dropped them last month. Now we’re following it up with this beautiful mix for snowy winter mornings or sandy summer summer afternoons. Basically, whatever hemisphere you’re in, or whatever mood, Melon will make you feel better, and that’s why we love him!

Vinyl collector, DJ and producer Hun Choi (aka Hunee) is the rarest of artists.

Choi’s sets straddle genres without sounding like a forced education, showing both his wide array of knowledge and his deep understanding of the dancefloor. A Berlin resident for many years, Choi recently upped sticks and moved out to Amsterdam, so it seemed almost inevitable that he’d end up working with the city’s stories Rush Hour imprint.

The label released Hunee’s debut album Hunch Music earlier this year, and it highlighted just how versatile Choi is as a producer. Giving requisite nods to Detroit and Chicago, Choi tracks through house and techno’s cinematic side with a unique lightness, bringing his expertise and pacing as a DJ to his productions with ease.

That same expertise can be heard throughout Hunee’s FACT mix. There’s nothing showoffy here, rather Choi has hand-picked a selection of summery deep cuts from his extensive catalogue of rarities, blending fuzzy soul, melancholy disco, hypnotic Kosmische music and plenty more to emerge with a mix that practically demands the clouds to part.

Hunee will be performing at Farr Festival this summer – 16-18 July to be precise – so if you’re in the Hertfordshire area, make sure you head over to the Farr site to investigate the expansive lineup and snag tickets.

As usual with a Hunee mix there’s no tracklist, so get spotting.

FACT Mix 501 - Hunee (Jun '15)

It all happened pretty quickly for Alessandro and Federico Fognini. In 2011, after years of making music in one form or another, the two brothers formed a new DJ and production duo: Mind Against. Two years later they'd moved from Italy to Berlin and had their first record out on Life and Death (Atlant), with another two in the pipeline (Avalon and Strange Days). By then their DJ careers had taken off and they were playing somewhere in the world every weekend. It seems they made quite an impression on their audiences: last December, they debuted in our annual Top DJs poll all the way up at #33. 

Sometimes it's hard to say exactly why an act breaks through, but not with these guys. From the off, Mind Against had a signature sound that was immersive and completely their own: cosmic, emotionally rich and banging when it needs to be. RA.482 shows us an especially subtle side of their sound, with 58 minutes of techno that gently ebbs and flows. (Resident Advisor)

Some may have seen or even experienced first hand Vaal and the Life and Death crew hammering Mathame's highly anticipated EP at ADE this year which is due to arrive on Vaal’s very own Baastard label later this month. 

Having already released on labels such as Connaisseur Recordings and Souvenir Music the pair are certainly paving their way for a very interesting project within the underground music community.

Originally from Wiesbaden in Germany, Noema is currently based in Berlin and has found a second home in Brazil, where he feels a deep connection to the music that has influenced his vibe immensely. Among the artists that have shaped his sense of musical aesthetic are Esbjörn Svensson, Matthew Herbert, Marvin Gaye, John Gage, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Voodoohop, the traces of whom can be found in Noema’s eclectic selections.

selected and curated mix of rare songs, grooves and rhythms from the African continent, with a heavy focus on the western part. All original records, therefor also the sometimes ruff sound, but with the additional charm and character it is with old well used records. 

It's a musical journey through countries such as Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Nigeria, Ghana, Congo and Benin. And we will explore the musically diversity the collector has to offer us from these countries. Get ready for some Mbalax, Afro Mandingue, Afro Cuban, Afro Rock and some Psych.
