Blood Relatives are a Glasgow-based band who play songs in an effort to make you dance and make you think. Having played together for a number of years under various guises and appearing at festivals such as T In The Park, Wickerman, Rockness, and Belladrum, the band release their Creative Scotland funded debut on Comets & Cartwheels this October.

Produced by Paul Savage (Admiral Fallow, The Delgados, The Phantom Band) and mastered by Iain Cook (Chvrches, The Unwinding Hours), the record showcases the band at their most mature, blending a uniquely Scottish sense of humour with sunny pop hooks that detract from the dreary climate of their homeland.

Lease of Life is the follow up to Errors’ critically acclaimed 2012 album Have Some Faith In Magic. Formulated on the Hebridean Isle Of Jura - the location where George Orwell wrote Nineteen Eighty-Four and the place where The KLF are rumoured to have burned a million pounds - it’s a bold work borne by the confidence and ambition of a band with a desire to combine the exploration of fresh soundworlds combined with their most accessible, immediate songwriting yet. Lease of Life is also the band’s most cohesive album statement to date: a start-to-finish experience that’s bound by recurring constituents and accomplished craft.

Welcome to Song, by Toad's MAGIC BEANZ! This is a wee sampler of six new band's we'll be working with this year - a complete rejuvenation of the label, in many ways.

We'll be releasing stuff by our more established collaborators of course, but 2015 will be dominated by the new people.

In February we have Le Thug's six-song vinyl EP 'Place Is' - electronic-infused shoegaze with gorgeous, dreamy vocals. 

Then in April the debut album by Garden of Elks, called 'A Distorted Sigh', which is all short, sharp, punchy as fuck indie rock songs. Picking the singles from this was a bit of a challenge as they're pretty much all singles.

Ian Turnbull from Broken Records has his own album coming out too - a beautiful collection of instrumental drone and detail, out as limited run vinyl under the name of digitalanalogue in March.

Then in May we have Greco-Portuguese newcomers Numbers Are Futile, whose hypnotic, percussive album of thrumming electronica is called 'Sunlight on Black Horizon'.

We're still waiting on a final mix, so we don't have a release date, but either early Summer or mid-Autumn will see Edinburgh's sludgey, shoegazey indie rockers Plastic Animals release their debut album 'Pictures From the Blackout'.

And finally, in February we'll be recording some more stuff with Passion Pusher, whose Couch King EP we released in November 2014 on cassette.

So 2015 will be all about the new kids at Song, by Toad, but don't worry, Adam Stafford has a new record on the way, we have a Split 10" with Rob St. John and Woodpigeon and Meursault have disintegrated and been re-born again as Supermoon, and Jonnie Common has all sorts of ideas too, so we won't be unrecognisable, just with a youthful spring in our collective step.

Idlewild - Come On Ghost

The enchanting nineteen year old Cara Mitchell is back with the download track 'Dust To Dust', taken from her breathtaking latest EP, Afraid of The Dark, out now via AGP.

Originally from Aberdeen in Scotland, Cara has been honing her skills for the past two years to create something even more flawless than her debut EP Have You Ever Wondered. Cara’s unique vocal tone is just the beginning of her talents, with her charming lyrics and beautifully arranged harmonies bringing each song together beautifully.

The five track EP opens with 'Dust to Dust', which immediately introduces the listener to Cara’s gorgeous tone. The track builds with the drums a driving force to a beat that you can’t help but tap your foot to. As you move through the EP, the tracks soften slightly with Cara’s vocals taking centre stage in 'Suspended Motion', with her incredible ability to bend notes in an almost Blues like fashion. The EP ends on 'This Human' which delicately allies Cara’s soft vocals and the strummed acoustic guitar, making you wish you were cuddled up close to someone by the fire.

In the last two years Cara has supported the likes of Emeli Sande, Rachel Sermanni, Simone Felice and Emily & The Woods. She has also performed a televised session for BBC Scotland as well as picking up support from the likes of Jim Gellatly, BBC Radio 1, The Scotsman and For Folks Sake. Her sharp rise in Scotland saw her gain a nomination for Best Acoustic Act at the 2013 and 2014 Scottish Alternative Music Awards.

Afraid of The Dark is out now via AGP.
