I’ve been working in the field all day
Hands to the plow while the world fades away
But where’s my feast where’s my crown
I gave it all but no joy comes down

I’ve stayed so near yet felt so far
Am I unseen beneath this star

Oh Father your love runs deeper still
More than my work more than my will
You call me child not by what I’ve done
Your grace flows freely through your Son

I thought the field would earn me your heart
Sweat and tears were my humble art
But you were waiting arms open wide
Your love was never something I had to buy

I was lost in the work of my own two hands
But you gave me a home where your mercy stands
No feast I earn no gift I bring
Just your love overflowing in everything

Oh Father your love runs deeper still
