"DJ SICKFUCK (she/her) is Leeza Shumova, a Russian-American DJ/Producer who splits her music-making time between writing and playing bumping dance music and throwing pop-up events in Moscow dedicated to experimental, drone and ambient music. 

On gender inequality in the Russian music scene: It is much more prevalent and noticeable than in EU or US, where there are more female/non-binary DJs. In Moscow, as in the majority of Russia, presumably, there are much more male DJs than female, trans and non-binary DJs. It is also somewhat looked down upon if you point this inequality out and remains an unspoken issue. There are some local initiatives engaged in creating female-safe spaces and networks and I am a great supporter of this tendency. Having grown up in the US, the imbalance sticks out like a sore thumb to me and moves me also to network and engage with female musicians, to offer support and promote them."

"To be honest: Preparing this set was weird for me. One year into the pandemic and my inspiration seems to have disappeared completely...
this is why I tried to bring together all genres of music that I enjoy the most and that make me feel warm and fuzzy: (jazzy) house, disco & funk. 

What's my view on the scene? When I started DJing over 10 years ago I was lucky to land in a bubble, where I met so many wonderful people and where gender equality was important and already a lived standard (most of the time). I felt respected and valued from the very start by the majority of people, wether fellow DJs, event organizers or people in the audience. I know that this is not a reality for everyone, but really hope that it will be very soon - everyone deserves this.

"When I first started djing I was into heavy industrial Techno music… During the years I moved more into the direction of House and the Techno records I used to play are beginning to get dusty now. At the moment I try to refresh my keyboard skills. I recently got myself a new toy – a Fender Rhodes stage piano and a Yamaha SK-20. So I’m occupied trying out some new stuff with that now. DIANA is female-lead and understands itself as a music-collective open for all genders and people, with the goal of strengthening each other. DIANAs three founding members Lena M, Leonie Savalas and Nâsca regularly play their own interpretation of electronic dance music from Leftfield House to Trance in Bars and Clubs along the Rhine, as a collective as well as on their own. Galleur has explored a wide variety of genres and influences in her 8 years as a DJ, which now manifest in her various projects at THF Radio, the trance b2b project Surf 2 Glory with her partner Sanaz, and her residences at the bass series Club Heart Broken and 90's Hi Energy collective Venus Vessels. 

“I have the feeling that there is a lot going on in the scene. Especially FLINTA* stick together and support each other where they can in this white and male dominated world. When I came to Berlin, I really didn't have much of a chance in the beginning - after all, in the years before I was only on the road in NRW, Belgium and the Netherlands. But through wonderful collectives like Slic Unit, Dimenzione Danza or my "home" of Club Heart Broken and Venus Vessels I got a lot of support. It's really nice to see a new generation of FLINTA* djs growing up, supporting each other and pulling each other up!”

As a member of the vacanza collective, Phoebe started DJing in 2019 & learned a lot of her skills at the rehearsal room at the Club "Conne Island" in Leipzig.
Phoebe never disappoints in matters of classic and funky grooves, no matter if true Classics or new stuff - because of her love for House Music.
Also she played her funky House sets at the Tarmac Festival 
(II. Reihe), Kulturlounge and at Conne Island on their Halftime Party on Wednesdays, as well as their Benefiz Disco.

"With my music, I want to create an atmosphere where you fall in love in the morning after rave on the dancefloor. I love the combination of fluffy disco sounds with driving elements - like ice and fire."

"Ich bin Rena Volvo und komme aus Berlin.  
Ich hab im Sommer 2018 mit dem Plattenspielen angefangen und hatte das Glück gleich zu Beginn im Monarch am Kotti spielen zu dürfen. Mein Homie Marian Tone von Wedding Soul hatte mich dazu eingeladen und so entstand unsere gemeinsame Partyreihe SUA ONDA. 
Hauptsächlich digge ich Discomusik aus aller Welt, habe aber eine Vorliebe zu den 80ern. Der größte Teil meiner Platten besteht wohl aus Italo-Disco und so kam es, dass ich euch auch ein reines Italo-Set mitgebracht habe. Ich liebe an dem Genre den Kitsch und dass sich die Leute in der Szene nicht so übertrieben ernst nehmen, sondern die gemeinsame gute Zeit im Vordergrund steht. Ich bin so dankbar und glücklich da reingerutscht zu sein. 

Eine meiner ersten Scheiben war Witch von Helen, der Track mich total weggeblasen. Diese Energie und dieser massive Sound der einen einfach überrollt und mit so wundervollen Gefühlen und so viel Power füllt. Das macht mich einfach süchtig. 
Ich hoffe ihr habt Spaß beim Hören und ich sag: Ciao e Grazie ragazzi ;)

Ich finde es super, dass sich die Zeiten ändern und sich immer mehr weibliche Djs am Geschehen beteiligen. Natürlich ist das auch so, weil sich das von Männern dominierte Business verändert hat, die Nachfrage nach Female Artists da ist und die Zeit einfach auch nach Veränderung schreit. Dennoch ärgere ich mich darüber, wenn ich angefragt werde, weil unbedingt noch 'ne Frau ins Line Up soll. Das ist für mich irgendwie der falsche Weg. Ich hab keinen Bock das Quotenweibchen zu spielen, ich will gebucht werden weil die Leute meinen Sound feiern."

The stigma that is often attached to female DJs needs to be taken out of the world. Otherwise we lose the opportunity to explore music diversity. “Jahrelang tanzte ich auf Raves nur zu Musik männlicher DJs und kam daher trotz meiner Liebe zu Techno nie auf den Gedanken, selbst Musik zu machen. Dann hörte ich eines Tages eine Frau auf einer Party auflegen und es glich einer Offenbarung - Zum ersten Mal dachte ich mir: 'This could be me!'. Durch diesen Impuls habe ich meinen Traum vom Deejaying verwirklicht und mir wird seither bei jedem meiner Gigs von Frauen gespiegelt, wie schön sie es finden, dass es immer mehr weibliche Acts in die ansonsten männerdominierten Line-Ups schaffen.  Ein Austausch wie dieser ist mein Antrieb, denn mit Techno habe ich ab Sekunde Eins vor allem freiheitliche Diversität und kulturelle Teilhabe verbunden. Deshalb beobachte ich mit wahnsinniger Freunde, dass talentierte Newcomer*innen selbst anfangen Musik zu machen und dass FLINTA*-DJs sich gegenseitig pushen und supporten, um die Szene noch bunter gestalten. Sichtbarkeit ist hierbei der Powermove, der weibliche, trans und non-binäre Musikbegeisterte dazu motivieren kann, selbst in die DJ-Booth zu steppen und die Hütte abzureißen – Die kreative Energie innerhalb unserer Subkultur ist nämlich das einzige, das sich vervielfacht, wenn man es teilt <3."

Anna Malysz, one quarter of the Monobloc-crew known as nice4what, fills her DJ sets with an eclectic mixture of housy breaks but no petty breakyhouse, leftfieldish electro, deeper tunes and emotional 90s warehouse reminiscences. Bustling on plenty levels for some years now she's become one of Leipzigs most influential multipliers: Being one of the chef-bookers of the fomative Conne Island and as part of the Crews nice4what and G-Edit, as well as with the Institut fuer Zukunft's in-house series DRIVE, pushing long overdue female and feminist topics into the scene just to name a few things. Deejay for drinks, deejay for friends, deejay for the glimpses of light that keep hope alive.

"Born in Geneva, I've developed a passion for electronic music many years ago. This passion was confirmed when I moved to Berlin two years ago. Since then I learned to mix and started recording podcasts on different European labels. I also had the opportunity to mix in my home town, Berlin and Amsterdam, proposing different styles of techno. But this time I wanted to pay tribute to the oldschool electronic music from the 90's, influenced by Dr. Rubinstein, a female DJ who mixes a lot of acid house and techno from this mystic period, creating a very special and juicy vibe on every set. Enjoy the spicy throwback!

I have a rather optimistic view of the issue of gender equality in the music industry, although it is very hard for me to make a judgement on this. Indeed, it's often easier to get booked as a female DJ, because there are fewer of them in this world, but at the same time you wonder if talent isn't becoming secondary and gender a main issue, when it should be the opposite. It's surely a step towards one day achieving equality where gender is not a criteria for booking artists. I think we can get there soon because mentalities are changing fast, especially in the underground world of electronic music. Personally I have never had a bad experience, hence my optimistic side I guess! What touches me particularly are the parties where the public is totally respectful of the DJ, no matter his genre; there are no inappropriate comments or looks, just people dancing and creating one energy with the artist. I find it so beautiful and I hope to be able to experience it very soon :)"

,,Moving from Berlin to Amsterdam and with her father as inspiration, a DJ of over 20 years, Karina has been surrounded by music growing up. Yet creating a new sound for herself, Karina is developing her musical journey and style in upbeat sounds in combination with breaks and electro tracks, since she finds passion within the fluidity of different genres.

As I'm still getting my feet into the 'industry', it’s difficult to have fully formed opinions. I do feel things are changing and my experience so far is positive, although I have had experiences before a gig where I felt micromanaged and patronised. I want there to be fair representation no matter gender/sexuality/race/class, but we still have a long long way to go."

“eva aka eves120 was born and raised in dresden, saxony but living in Leipzig for more than 3 years now. She started djing in 2017 influenced by the disco genre from her crew called palais palett. With time taste changes so does hers and she said goodbye to disco after some years. For the last years she is know for faster breaks mixed with proggy house up to electro. Since more than a year she is resident of the well known objekt klein a in Dresden after working there for years and grown up at this beautiful place”. 

Maybe I am wrong but when I started djing 6 or 7 years ago it feels like that was the time things started to change a bit? Because before I had one of my first gigs a guy I didn’t really know that well came to me and said ‘u are djing? That’s cool because I am looking for a female DJ for my line up’. He never heard anything that I played. At that time I was just happy and honored that someone even ask me to play but when I think about this today it feels weird. Cause that was not the last time I’ve heard that kind of sentences. Don’t get me wrong, mixed line ups are important and we are definitely on a good way but in my opinion music should always be the priority. So listen to female DJs and book them if u like their music, not the other way around. Besides this I have to say for now I feel very comfortable as a female DJ in this business, but especially support from other flintas feels always great. So don’t stop supporting each other :-)

SAM started stepping out of the shadows rather recently. With monthly guests on her “Whatever Floats Your Boat” show on Callshop Radio she has been introducing a musical vision since the beginning of last year and also showed the more floor oriented side of that vision with her booking for the “II. Reihe sleepless” stage at Tarmac Festival. 

In her own DJ sets she carefully brings together a wide range of laid back styles from different electronica and lately she’s been getting a little housier. This mix is her first released dancefloor-oriented one and offers a taste of the upcoming events where we can hear SAM play.

MIUTE, a Tokyo-based DJ and event organizer, only started her DJ career in 2020, but it didn't take her long to go from small Shibuya clubs to some of the most respected venues in the city.
Primarily drawing from grime, drill, hip-hop, and dancehall, MIUTE brings both intensity and a sense of glamour that matches her character. Jumping across genres, eras, and scenes, her selections always captivate the dancefloor.

ZENA MIXSERIES NO. 113 - Goldie Plam

Goldie Palm has always been a big fan of music - while listening and dancing at home, in clubs or at concerts and she’s having a hidden passion for singing. Early 2019 she started mixing tracks just for fun and quickly became pretty passionate about it. Since November 2020 she's hosting a radio show called Palm Paradise, which is regularly broadcasted by RBL Berlin. About two years ago she fell in love with Leipzig, said bye to Berlin and shortly after became a member of Vacanza Leipzig e.V. In her sets and on the dance floor she’s serving all the feels, ranging from dreamy to bassy house music up to indie dance, synth-wave and other sweet pearls of electronic music by constantly ending  in full high energy mode. Basically on a mission to make some hearts glow, 'cause 'the music’s no good without you baby' and it's more fun if we dance together.

"My attitude towards gender (in)equality in club culture & electronic music has changed a lot since I moved from Berlin to Leipzig two years ago. There’s a lot of support within the scene, especially between flinta* artists and this is a big blessing and something that really keeps me moving. In the beginnings I often had the feeling of just getting booked, mainly by male promoters, to fill some kind of missing „female gap“ in a line up and being quite replaceable like it wasn’t really about me or the music I was playing. Over the past two years a lot has changed and I would say awareness towards inequality got bigger, but I can mainly talk about the experiences I made in Leipzig and surroundings and there are still situations that teach me different from time to time. I would say it’s generally hard to prove yourself to promoters as relatively new and autonomous Dj without an agency."

Leipzig's long-term resident jewelry  has been embracing all her musical personalities lately by presenting a diverse range of music styles. This time, she opted for a vinyl-only mix with a housy vibe, which she would describe as music to wiggle around to. 

"As I am not only a DJ but also working in a club, it is not only astonishing how unequal club culture is in front of the stage, but also behind it. It is definitely a hard business to establish yourself in, no matter where you are standing. We live in a patriarchy and club culture truly is and should be a safe space, but it is for sue not free from the society we live in. I appreciate every single person and event I come by, that truly makes an effort to have the best possible safe space provided for attendees. It's a hard job and I will always be moved by the work and stress people go through to break these patterns and create a time in place where you actually feel seen, heard and appreciated."

,,ONLYLU, Hamburg-based DJ and co-founder of OSZIL, as well as LC-O, provides a sound that can be categorized as tech-trance or progressive-house, which features mainly recent releases from France, Israel and Australia. The synergy established through a combination of breaky passages, psytrance- and acid elements, represents a currently trending sound-scape that sure promises one thing: To keep you dancing.

Besides DJing, Lu is dedicated to club culture and an active and present figure in Hamburgs club scene. Lu can be found at the Golden Pudel Club door or on the floor taking care of security and awareness matters, or at the [PAL] door as a selector. 

Gender equality in club culture and the electronic music scene remains a utopia due to dominant patriarchal structures. I see it as my responsibility to change this for the better, which is why I dedicated myself to club culture. Making a change requires a lot of patience and endurance. By being active in club culture on so many levels (organizing parties, writing and executing awareness concepts, working at the doors of Golden Pudel Club and [PAL], running two collectives and  DJing), I feel that I have a resourceful position to move something.‘‘

,,The love for electronic music was discovered by Kluges Kind in 2016. Two years later, the itch to try it herself became irresistible, and she entered the DJ ring with 105 BPM. However, over time, the pace increased, and the genres shifted. Now, she navigates through Leipzig's club scene with a mix of melodic vocals, intense breaks, and a full bass.

When I entered the DJ scene in Karlsruhe in 2018, I only knew one other Flinta person who was playing music. The inequality was very pronounced, Flinta people were (and are) little recognized and valued. However, I only truly became aware of all this when I came to Leipzig in 2021. The awareness of equality in general is much more pronounced here. Nevertheless, there is still much work to be done until underrepresented groups have an equal place in the club and cultural scene. It's good that the issue is taken seriously in cities like Leipzig, so that it also becomes a priority in cities with less politicized club scenes.''

mx.pinky is a German DJ, producer and vinyl collector bringing you sexy, subby, genre-bending dance music. Known for her superb selection, extended blends and serving dancefloor exhilaration, mx.pinky's expansive range varies from bass to breakbeat, electro, techno, house and beyond. Community care is central to her inspiration in the booth and day-to-day, moonlighting as an organiser of mutual aid fundraiser Berlin Collective Action and the Black Sex Worker Collective. mx.pinky is also a resident of Berlin’s new queer trans art collective exude.

"It’s exhausting that despite the extensive online conversations, panels, debates and articles we’ve had over the last years, we see mostly only cosmetic changes in our music scene. Yet behind the scenes - producers of events, bookers, venue owners and the people who are primarily in the position to create impact - we see barely any change. It’s still a culture dominated by white cis men. 

It’s encouraging to see a FLINTA movement taking over some aspects of production, forming collectives and positioning themselves against patriarchal norms in this industry. However I’ve witnessed a reproduction of the same hierarchies by many of these collectives, mostly run by white cis women. We often think that “underground,” off-mainstream, club culture is different, yet we are still operating within the capitalist system of organizing. This always places people on the margins, like trans people, on the bottom rung of priority - affecting their ability to form their own collectives, become part of the decision making of events or even owning their own spaces. So we end up as token bookings on lineups.

What moves and encourages me is working with people who want to imagine something different. Who are willing to break existing norms and rules to transform into something that we always theorize and dream of but never experience. exude (https://www.instagram.com/exude_/) is a new queer trans art collective I'm a part of striving to do just that."

Masha Wordpress is an Amsterdam-based DJ and producer known for her electrifying presence and high-voltage performances. Her productions blend various elements of electronic music and create a dynamic landscape full of unexpected twists and turns. During her DJ sets, she fills the dancefloor with unrestrained energy, taking listeners on a sonic journey between techno, electro, and breakbeat.

"Electronic music remains a predominantly masculine and male-dominated field up to this day. There have been some changes within the scene, but we are still far from a gender-balanced environment, especially in DJ-ing and music production. It is crucial to keep the awareness about the issue and support each other within the scene. I’m always happy to see fellow female DJs behind the decks and hope there will be more diversity and FLINTA representation in the line-ups in the future."

Critter is a genre-weaving selector and seamless blender of hard and soft. Hefty basslines, shimmering melodies, and hypnotic polyrhythms are her specialty. She feels most at home inside a crate-digging rabbit hole, and most herself when prancing in the rave.

She’s currently living in Toronto, Canada, where she organizes queer dance music events, dreams up gorgeous blends, and gets into mischief. Her energetic sets shake the club’s foundation and give the dance floor goosebumps.

"Inequality in club culture, electronic music, and our world in general can feel so overwhelming and consuming for me at times. In these moments, I find strength in queer dance music spaces and DJing. The catharsis that’s sparked by a masterful set, a dark dance floor, and a killer sound system feels bigger than me and bigger than everything.

During times of amplified chaos, I gravitate toward heavy sounds. It feels empowering to find a safe space in darker realms of techno, dubstep, and bass, and to find agency within music that’s intentionally disorientating. This mix is about taking up space and rooting in what makes me feel powerful. It’s inspired by angst, and celebrates head thrashing; head bobbing; fluidity; transcendence; feeling sad and held; and finding home in your body. I dedicate it to the FLINTA* artists of dance music today, and the FLINTA* pioneers of dance music that paved the way for us.

Lauryn fell in love with techno and the many expressions within the genre when she stumbled into DVS1’s warehouse in Minneapolis roughly 7 years ago. She believes if you were to peel back the layers within techno, you would find jazz, experimentalism, ambient music, etc. This mix aims to extract those micro-expressions within that sphere, and arrive at the heart-space from which all music can come from.

This mix is a love letter to those experiencing pain and yearning for hope; a whisper in your ear to keep holding on.

„The systemic forces in our world oftentimes feel much too heavy of a burden to face, but I believe a powerful antidote is exuding unwavering authenticity. It's immensely important for marginalized creatives to hold steady to their spirit and message without holding back.

Authenticity liberates. It moves people—sharing your message has the power to resonate with others and create a bond. I hold steady to this ethos, while continually working to strengthen that practice within myself. I hope it inspires others to do the same.“

In their show, you'll discover their eclectic taste in subgenres along with the sounds of other talented artists, primarily focusing on FLINTA artists.

"Before we both started DJing, the only DJs in our circle of friends were men. Through the Conne Island Proberaum, we not only learned how to DJ but also landed our first gig, thanks to their support. Gradually, we met more amazing girls/FLINTAS, and now we feel completely at home in the community. Leipzig/Halle are excellent cities for connecting and exchanging ideas with others, but there's still progress to be made. Unfortunately, many events still feature predominantly male lineups, and most bookers and organizers are also male. Even though more FLINTAS are getting booked now, there's still often a lack of inclusivity and queerness, not only in clubs and parties but also in community radios.

So let's shift our gaze and stay informed."

California-born, Cologne-based Savsannah aspires to bring people together through music, community building, and writing. You can find her in different pockets of the city, such as hosting her dublab DE radio show "This Must Be The Place," running the contemporary pop-focused label Safe Space Records, and working with the Papercup Records family. She also co-founded the queer-feminist collective called cumming, and is one of eight members of the DJ collective E.P.I.Q. Savsannah's sets focus on creating a welcoming space where listeners can escape to another world to feel an array of emotions. She intertwines the melodies and vocals amongst a fluidity of genres, embracing all types of music lovers into her universe.

"Firstly, I want to say how proud I am of all the collectives out there who dedicate their work to changing their nightlife - especially the ones who uplift queer and BIPOC FLINTA artists and communities. I've always believed change comes from within the local scenes. They push boundaries and create new rules and concepts to change what we've always known.

The work continues, though. I would love to see a world where more local bars and clubs are run by FLINTA* people. I have always believed that to see our continuous change, we need more people who aren't cis white dudes to run these places. These physical spaces are essential for communities to come together IRL. And when people run the venues without a willingness to change the system, then we are stuck repeating history.

And sharing resources! Sharing knowledge. Lately, I've seen an increase in gatekeeping as the scene gets more competitive. This is not the way. How will we ever find a new music genre again if we don't share what we know and the inspiring things we've learned along the way? Or show someone how simple it is to start collecting music if they want to DJ someday?
 
Reflecting on the things that need changing here on Earth, I decided to take this mix to the moon. The moon symbolizes what equality could look like in nightlife. It thrives in (genre & gender) fluidity as its gravitational pull guides the tides in and out. Within these tides are new ecosystems that find their way to shore. Diverse beings discover a soft welcome as the waves blanket them with protection and support. And all the while, the moon shines, leading these beings toward their best artistic selves.
 
This mix is a testament to sounds that make me move in an unorthodox way. It moves me to look inward and feel the tenderness each beat brings along the horizon. La Luna's many facets bring inspiration to this unique mix. The dark side of the moon is a mystery of wobbly bass - where slowed-down percussions and unknown depths fuel the creativity that lurks behind an array of genres. And the moon's phases are mazes that weave in and out of my set. Each moon cycle teaches you something new - maybe today it was a new genre or something about yourself that you see reflected in the Lofi deep house, tech house groove, or a short taste of bubbly UKG."

Mars cultivate a sharp taste for progressive house, trance and broken rhythms that make you sway... and sometimes ambient gems that make you shiver. Get ready for focused expressions, shared moments of sensitivity, the shy smiles of an introverted Alien thrown into the spotlight. To move you while making you move, that's Mars' mission.

Gender inequality, especially in the electronic music industry, is a central topic in my personal reflexion but also in my academic and artistic experience. More and more I tend to analyze all forms of oppression in the club culture and how I can attempt to address them, both individually and collectively. More and more my DJ activity is political. 
As part of my university studies, I worked on the reconfigurations of the social norms on the dancefloors, in light of feminist and queer political struggle in the night time economy. This work gave me tools to understand these power dynamics and fight against them, while also offering me a lot of hope through my encounters with amazing activists. Check out Consentis for example, an organization for the prevention of violence and discrimination in party spaces, with which I currently work :) It's so encouraging to witness changes in these environments, even though other factors like racism, transphobia, or classism are still too often overlooked...
As a bisexual & non-binary soul, it's important for me to find spaces where I feel comfortable, where I can have PROPER funnnn, when my friends are safe, with people who share the same values and utopias than me. I also wanna be active in the promotion of marginalized artists. That's why I'm so glad to be part of With Us ! This is a french collective who throws cute queer parties and whose goal is to give visibility to non-binary and transgender artists. We just want to bring together a community that loves music and seeks a place to fully enjoy it, that's our biggest dream and it's now a bit of a reality !! It gives me so much love, strength and creativity. And we'd like to have more partnerships with other queer collectives and venues in France and Europe in the future soooo ring us ;) "

Drawing from a diverse range of influences, including dubstep, hard drum, percussion-heavy beats and latinamerican sounds, zina creates an immersive and dynamic experience. Her style shifts smoothly between futuristic, club-ready chaos and more serene, melodic layers, always keeping the audience engaded.
Now based in Frankfurt, zina is a member of IBB, a collective that highlights the variety and depth of underground club music. She thrives on connecting with others through sound, and finds joy in experimenting with new textures and moods. Whether she’s layering complex, drum patterns or guiding listeners through a more meditative, dark atmosphere, she loves to create a musical journey.

"Gender inequality in club culture and electronic music is obviously an issue that still needs attention. While there have been improvments, especially with the inclusion and visibility of more flinta* artists, it's clear that there's more to be done. For me, music is always the main focus, but i believe male-led collectives and bookers should make a concious effort to discover female artists who genuinely complement their sound- not just to check a box, but to recognize the talent and perspectives female artists bring, which for sure enrichs and diversifys the scene."

"I'm a female DJ from Germany. My style is very analog, dark and
reminds of those times when techno and electronic music grew up.  The
early days of techno were always my time. I let this time flow into my
mixes. My sets are about dark disco, indie dance, the 80ies, analog

The techno-scene is not always nice to women, so I think a lot more
women should show what they can do in the music-scene. No matter what

"Als ich die ersten Male zu elektronischer Musik feiern ging wurde mir schnell klar, dass ich nicht nur die Liebe zu dieser Musik gefunden hatte, sondern auch zu allem was dazu gehört: laute Bässe, Strobo und die Menschen, die einfach nur eine schöne Zeit verbringen möchten. Ich empfand damals, genauso wie heute eine große Offenheit zwischen den Gästen. Auch die Freundlichkeit und der Respekt, mit welchem man sich gegenübertritt, haben mich gepackt. Für meine Erfahrungen gilt es, dass die elektronische Musikszene eine offene und divers aufgestellte Szene ist, in welcher mir die Leute bisher mit einer hohen Toleranz begegneten. Natürlich gibt es mal gute und mal weniger gute Partys, mal nette und mal nicht nette „Tanznachbar*innen“, doch trotzdem ist man immer Teil der Gemeinschaft, egal mit wie vielen Leuten man hingeht oder wie man sich zur Musik bewegt. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Club-Erfahrungen, habe ich in der elektronischen Musikszene bisher deutlich weniger Diskriminierung oder Respektlosigkeit erfahren- und trotzdem bekomme ich als weibliche DJ oft direkt einen Stempel aufgedrückt. Denn auf der einen Seite wird so getan, als sei es nichts Besonderes, dass eine Sie die Regler bewegt und auf der anderen Seite, wird es extra im LineUp mit „DJane“ gekennzeichnet. Für mich war die Bezeichnung DJane von Anfang an etwas widersprüchliches, denn „DJ“ ist eine Abkürzung für DiscJokey. Die Verweiblichung des Wortes macht eine Unterscheidung, die für mich keine Rolle in der Musik spielen sollte.
So als würde man als weibliche Person ein Mischpult anders bedienen. Denn immer wieder passiert es, dass Leute nach meinem Set zu mir kommen und ihr Feedback oder Kompliment mit „… und das von einer Frau“ beenden. Wenn du also Lust hast dich deiner Liebe zur Musik hin zu geben, dann scheis drauf wie männlich dominiert dein Umfeld auch sein mag- nimm die Regler selbst in die Hand und go for it!!  Ich fände es schön, wenn man als DJ einfach für das Set gefeiert wird, das man gespielt hat. Für nichts anderes.  
Ich wünsche mir, dass wir in nähester Zukunft wieder alle gesund und munter tanzen und uns frei fühlen können."

"disclaimer / disclosure: this mix was made while having a lonely evening in my room, feeling strangely yet deeply connected to the world. it reflects upon the different sonic realities, I still struggle with being stuck in between both: the centuries-old liturgical music I grew up with, and moving away from home other contemporary musical styles, that provided me shelter from the narrow structures of a strict classical music education. the attempt to bring both worlds to a synthesis was therefore a healing experience. it contains tracks by people i know and love, as well as snippets of my very own first experience in producing. it is joss-stick and wodka-flavored and spiced with warm thoughts of Julia, Emma-Lilo, Carmen, Vanny, Marita, Juliane and Tamara. I feel blessed to work and live together with those inspiring women."
