Scuba Death is Ricardo Donoso's alter ego. With more of a focus on analog sound, percussion, sampling, and location recordings, there is an organic undercurrent on Scuba Death recordings that isn't as prevalent in his solo work. This music is rich in atmosphere while still tethered to the deeper ideas that Donoso often explores in his work. Treatises on fear and death­anxiety, the underlining thematic framework for the project, run rampant throughout these claustrophobic electronic passages, and teeter on the edge of being oppressive. 

Nitrogen Narcosis marks the first full length and strongest statement in the Scuba Death repertoire after the privately issued, ruthless ‘Demon Seed’ twelve inch back in 2011. The album alternates between surprising lethargic dance inflections all nestled between 75 & 100 bpm, the normal resting heart rate for adults, and the more conceptual, numbness­inducing pieces like "50­-70 Meters" and "Nociception." Sequencing plays an integral role on Nitrogen Narcosis as the listener is suddenly thrust into the darkest reaches of the ocean after dark alley grooves are sucked into an aquatic abyss. 

For a project named after Donoso's near­drowning experience in the South Atlantic when he was younger, there's an impressive amount of reflection & vulnerability present – the field recordings that permeate throughout the album were captured at the same location the undertow caught hold of him that bright Summer day 20 years prior. An inner battle between paranoia and euphoria is played out in well­conceived, precision sonics on Nitrogen Narcosis as Donoso reminds us to look back, break through the surface and go deeper. 

Ricardo Donoso's solo work speaks for itself, but with this new chapter comes new questions and considerations. Scuba Death is enigmatic to a fault and all the better for it.

Taking our new (vintage) Korg SM-10 synth for a spin. Improvised, one take each for three synth tracks and one guitar track, no corrections. Some mistakes (some good ones). 

May eventually become the basis of a new song. Enjoy the noises. There's a particularly sweet bit of white noise right at the end!

The Maghreban found a bunch of old cassette tapes at his dads house. One said 'Alex July 84' on it. This tape was from Alexandria, Egypt in the summer of 1984. It had some interesting music recorded on it. The Maghreban sampled a few of the tracks to make this one.

In 2014 Kilian started with Sign Bit Zero as a party in Leipzig. This so he could invite different artists, that he wanted to hear more often there. With the likes of Mick Wills, Ron van de Kerkhof, Phuong Dan sharing sounds in space. Sign Bit Zero became a label as of this year. The first release was with Mick Wills. Which will be followed by a split EP of Wosto (Fallbeil) and Kilian himself. Murray CY's of Contort Yourself is next in line. After that Black Seed with a strong four track EP is planned. Thus with loads of potential future classics coming out, it's wise to keep an ear out for these releases.

As if all those planned blisses weren't enough, he's also working on a new series of the label. A series that will reissue experimental, noisy, industrial and mostly old sounds. The first release is with Anthon Shield, Im Namen des Volkes and Sleep Chamber.

Since Sign Bit Zero started off as a party, it still functions in that way, yet no longer in Leipzig. Nowadays it's cooperating twice a year with Contort Yourself and Ohne Ziel in Berlin. Which makes total sense, because all those involved have very close ties to one another, with them all being very likeminded spirits and having all very complementing sounds.

Later this year Kilian will also have a release on a Macadam Mambo EP shared with Dunkeltier and Ober Mannkind amongst others. He also just released Selbstgefährung a cassette album and just finished recording an EP Ich hasse Menschen! Together with a few others, he's involved in a new project in Leipzig with already a bunch of nice names booked for next month...
