This track started as a voice memo and turned into another playground for odd time signatures. I actually do hate putting all these markers into my projects, but it was just so fun to do.

I finished this track as a submission for 2023's Snowdrop Festival by Infloresce Records, but there were so many awesome submissions that this one didn't make the cut. I hope you enjoy this stupid little beast!

Stairstep Stumble

This is what was supposed to be track 02 of my concept album. This is obviously a mockup that uses sampled instruments (except for the acoustic guitar by a nice friend of mine and the badly played harp, which I recorded myself as wel as the Didgeridoo...) and is overall not too well mixed.
It was meant to be a journey through the mind of the survivor of a car crash who finds out how it brought an important realization to him and that changed is life for the better.
Like 99.9% of my projects, I abandoned it not too soon after I realized I'm not into it enough to make it good, so here I upload what is left of it.
The piano pattern here is the same as in my remix for MIND FCUK SIHT. However the pattern actually came from this very track and I just adapted it for the remix. Think I should go back to this project one day?

Campfire Story - Chapter 2: DESCENT (Demo)

Kraut On Me

This is another track from the Campfire Story concept album I am thinking about for more than 5 years now. While presumed dead, I had to think about it a lot lately and played around with a pattern that I found would fit perfectly well into the whole work.

While DESCENT tells the Narrator's fading into his inner world, ASCENSION, in parallel, tells his going out, after finding inner peace, yet realizing the struggle for life. For a moment you can hear him giving up and wanting to fade into the eternal slumber, but then realizing there's too much left for him to do on this earth to succumb to the machines keeping him alive.

You will hear some familiar themes and some would be familiar if I had properly recorded REGRETS which will happen probably sometime within the next five years. :P

No real instruments in this mockup, unfortunately. :( Orchestrals are VSL, rest is Native Instruments. Serum hidden somewhere, a field recording by me and some stuff from freesound by kb7clx (oxygen concentrator), FreqMan (Heart Rate Monitor) and matucha (campfire).

Campfire Story - Chapter 6: ASCENSION (Demo)

My contribution to the #sworcery a/v jam! We all know the great soundtrack for this great game written by Jim Guthrie, but I feel that one particular great track has been forgotten among the masses - the moon grotto track, the only one not written by Jim Guthrie but C Andrew Rohrmann aka scntfc american.
This little jam-remix is a tribute to this very track, but that doesn't mean, I don't like the rest of the OST - I love it! (Otherwise I wouldn't own it on LP and cassette tape...)

Moon Grotto Jam

This is a remix I wrote for The Basement Collection by Edmund McMillen, which is available for 4$ on Steam, which is a fair price. My remix is featured next to 10 other awesome fan remixes for games in The Basement Collection.
The piano pattern is actually stolen from another idea I had a long time before that, for my concept album. I just love the time signature switch from 7/8 to 9/8, which eventually adds up to two 4/4 bars. Some orchestral instruments by VSL.

TIME FCUK SIHT

Written in 2017, this wasn't intended to be part of Campfire Story at first because of its short length, simple structure and sparse instrumentation. I just needed to get a deep feeling of regrets into music, but I later realized that this fits very well into the storyline of Campfire Story. This was when I put the four note theme into the melody and realized it fit quite well.
As I was feeling very regretful in the past few weeks, I revisited this piece and decided to record it. The imperfections in playing, recording and other things can be considered features and not issues in this piece as it is about embracing that you are not perfect. :)

The piece is about the things you regret in life, which you just can't get rid of. Maybe you cannot apologize to the person anymore for various reasons. Maybe it's your fault even. However, often it is that you have to forgive yourself about the things you've done and embrace how life is going on and try to be your best possible person, learning from what you've done.

In Campfire Story, this is after the narrator has realized that he has made himself responsible for the death of his sister and needs to find redemption from himself to rediscover his will to live during his near death experience. It is a fitting contrast to the rather wild and complex music before and after, justifying it to stay as a part of this concept album!

Campfire Story - Chapter 5: REGRETS (Demo)

This track was an experiment to make me step out of my comfort zone. Everything is derived from sine waves, using only plug-ins and not the synthesizer fx, especially plug-ins I've bought but rarely ever or even never used. The idea for a track called "As Loud as Decibel" came out of the blue when I was on the train and I really liked the pun. Then I thought about how such a track could sound and I thought it has to work with sine waves. And yeah, that's how the idea was born. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 
It was a cool, challenging and fun project that all of a sudden became an almost 8 minute hypnotic meditation - sorry for the long and repetitiv duration - but I've decided to leave the length. It was nice to think about how to create a hi hat or a snare from sine waves and while I might have cheated a little by using a ring modulator with noise as a source for the snare drum, I still had lots of fun to tackle this issue creatively and learned a lot.

Happy Halloween! My take on the Dark Ambient genre. How did I do? :D

A few words: I've wanted to try out Dark Ambient for a long time now and for this Halloween I decided to give it a go. I gave myself the objective to not use any synthesizers, only recordings as a source. Editing in all wide forms and sorts was allowed (and I did that). So I went across my flat and quickly did a few recordings, see a making of here:

Furthermore, I put in some recordings I did when I was in Panicale this summer and went on top of a small mountain, the Paradiso, hence the title.

I made a lot of use of PaulXStretch in this project. Gets a bit confusing after a while with all the automation, but damn this tool is mighty.

Quickly mixed on headphones, might replace with a better mix or maybe not. :^)

Descent from Paradiso

This track took way too long to complete. Welcome to another entry of my ever WIP concept album "Campfire Story". I did put a lot of heart, soul and effort into it and did the best I could do. I hope you enjoy it. I intended to release a video alongside but that turned out to be way too much of a task for me and my old PC to handle to edit at the moment, so unfortunately this will have to wait a while. It WILL get released eventually.

CONFRONTATION is about confronting your past. More specifically confronting these memories of yours you wish you wouldn't have because you don't want them to be true. You hope by forgetting or denying them, the deeds will become undone but eventually they catch up on you. Ignoring them will get you nowhere, eventually you must face them. This is never an easy, quick or painless act, but necessary to finally get closure. Maybe even, apart from the feelings of anger, guilt, pain and shame, you will experience almost uncanny emotions of a bittersweet melancholy.

In Campfire Story, the narrator needs to face the one memory he as tried to keep out of his head - the last memory which he has of his alive sister which is also the day she died. One day, during his early childhood, he didn't feel like listening to his parents and went to the water his older sister watching out for him. He did what he was told not to do. He was lucky to stay alive. His sister, however, drowned. This day on he blamed solely himself for her death, living with the guilt and trying to modify or erase the ever more fainting memory out of his head.

Campfire Story - Chapter 4: CONFRONTATION (Demo)

This track's sounds are produced solely with outboard synths. I had a ton of fun making it although figuring out a good setup after working with only VSTi synths for years was very awkward and painful - but worth it! :)

In mixing, I still applied lots of the regular plugins.
