Introducing our next Sister of Sound - Panthaera

Mel AKA Panthaera is a Melbourne born and bred psychedelic techno DJ. She's a fresh face behind the decks, but not at all a fresh face to the scene. With a lifelong passion for music, her love of chunky basslines and cheeky psychedelic sounds was found while regularly tearing up the dancefloors of the Melbourne club and doof scene. This love naturally evolved into a desire to share her niche taste in music with those around her.

Panthaera continues to hold space within our talent scene on a number of projects with frequent sets at MyAeon and podcasts from across the city. This mix is her inspiring take on downtempo psychadelic  journey within..

Basilisk is a veteran multi-genre DJ, co-founder of the influential psychedelic techno label Techgnosis Records (@techgnosis-records), and founder of the iconic @Ektoplazm music portal and label group. Originally hailing from Toronto, Canada, he is now based in Taipei, Taiwan, where he remains dedicated to breaking boundaries through mixcraft and the art of DJing.

Appearing now on Subtrail's Trail Cast, Basilisk presents a broad definition of "psychedelic techno", sourcing material from across the spectrum from minimal and dub techno to dark and progressive psytrance, with tasteful references to tech house and classic trance. Smooth harmonic mixing, subtle tension building, and a spiral motion through different moods ensures this will be a true journey into sound. Feedback Loop

The track is a deep, atmospheric journey with a driving pulse. Inspired by my visit to a city, where the mix of foggy coastlines and vibrant nightlife left a lasting impression. At the end of the day, I just wanted to translate that feeling into my music.

About this set:

"It's difficult to find the words to describe the things I felt and experienced at Elements 2020. Undoubtedly, it was one of the most energetically intense gatherings I've ever been to. Extreme togetherness after extreme isolation; an event so close to the heart yet so adverse to the global current affairs; incredible music on monstrous sound systems; the heat; hugging friends; losing a brother; yoga in the dirt; lack of sleep; raising the vibrations; wondering why the fuck we were so fortunate to do this; worried about the state of the world; hopeful for the future...

After four full days at the festival, at 1am on the last night I took to the main stage. I did my best to understand the culmination of these energies and emotions and bring closure to the event, inspiration and warmth to the people, through the music, without the confines of genre.

Thank you so much to everyone who facilitated this event and poured their sweat and blood into it (you know who you are) and everyone who danced until their feet hurt all weekend (you know who you are too).

I'm still processing that weekend. It will take some time. In the meantime, here is the recording of my performance to close the festival. Listen closely, close your eyes, or dance, or both. I look forward to seeing you soon." ♥ :)
