Andrew Weatherall was a main influence for the Something Spæcial series from the get-go, so here finally is The Robot Scientists tribute to one of the most influential, creative, productive, classy and original producers we know. We decided to pick the tracks, remixes and co-productions from him we love most and put them in almost full length into a slowly developing, slowly grooving pretty long mix that pays complete respect to the meticulously drafted tracks and all their fantastic details mainly from his A Love From Outer Space years 2012-20. It is a homage just as a monument we hope for his creative output. Enjoy the ride.

Bård Aasen Lødemel, aka Skatebård, dove into techno and rave culture in the 1990s before becoming a producer of disco, house and techno with a retro-futuristic touch. Originally from Ørsta, he moved to Bergen in 2000, where he quickly became part of the city’s burgeoning club scene. After handing a homemade demo to Mikal Telle, head of Tellé Records, he was signed in 2001 to the sub-label Tellektro. Over the course of an impressive career marked by five albums and more than twenty 12" EPs, he has secured a strong presence in some of the most respected venues on the electronic scene, effortlessly navigating between seemingly opposite genres and moods : Italo disco and raw, Detroit-inspired house and techno. He signs our 264th mix.

It opens with the sound of Mark Hollis’s voice as a nice nod to Spirit of Eden and then veers from drone through Balearic, Compass Point ish funk, Psych-y stuff and ends with Krauty excursions and a smattering of New Wave Pop.

I played a gig recently in june and got the recording... and i just didnt think it was great. it wasnt received poorly in the moment at the gig, that was all fine. but as a recording where i played 80/20 digital/vinyl, i just dont think it should have been that "jarring". im not super harsh on myself and i have learned to move on over time in this aspect.  i shared it with a friend and he said "oh dont  sweat it, it went well in the moment" - sure, like i said, it did.  but i would not be happy or "proud" putting it out.  fine. whatever. 
anyway, i kinda was not over it. so i decided to record a mix at home, this time 80/20 vinyl/digital. i got to pull old records that i havent seen or played in a while as well as some of the most recent music ive bought. 


the mix is dedicated to those peeps that care enough to: 
1. keep me in check
2. inspire me to do better; not better than 'others' BUT just, improve myself.

BLACKOUT started out as a club night at Kilo Lounge in 2014... fast forward just 3 years to today and BLACKOUT has grown into an Events Company & a DJ Booking Agency. The private facebook group has grown up to 3000 followers.... and is constantly growing day by day. A firm believer in "Quality Not Quantity". Very thankful for all the support from everyone who has attended all the club nights and events I've been organising.  Living the dream only because of all of you. 

I finally started to enjoy looking for all this new music and  putting it together for a new mix. My music has changed alot in the last 6 months, so it's time to put out a new mix.  I've been listening to lot of Ambient, Electronica, Rock & Psychedelic music lately.  Also been really inspired by Red Axes, Prins Thomas , Jennifer Cardini, Roman Flugel & home boy Jonathan Kusuma. They've got a really refreshing sound, and their track selection never fail to impress me.
