Live at Fall Classic 2023

This is a set I put together earlier this year which was meant to be played this summer at 230pm on the beach stage at The Pachena Bay Festival on Saturday. Due to what seemed to be an unfortunate surge from the generator, my USB hub got fried, and therefore I was unable to connect my laptop to my mixer. I was heartbroken. Thankfully I had some of the most important people in my life around me to keep me from a complete breakdown. 

After many attempts to get things to work, the decision was made to play on CDJs, through an external HD, which didn’t have the music for this set on it, so I had to quickly improvise. The set went well, people loved it, but I was left extremely frustrated and discouraged. 

In the 30 years I’ve been playing music, I’ve honestly never put so much time, effort and emotion into building a set as I have this one. After the unfortunate events, I vowed I’d never play this anywhere other than the setting is was meant for, but my amazing Estelle 💖 talked me into making this my first studio recording in almost 8 years, and I’m happy she did.

90's Time Machine ANDC

I intended this mix to bring the dark to light. Booked as the opening slot Friday morning around 6am amid dust storms, it felt appropriate that I start with darker techy shit, then move into hopeful grimy shit, then evolve into hip hop influenced tech house. This progression was effective and had the dance floor, full of people now grooving, whom weren't there when I started, jumping in sync against the weight of the pre-storm white-out.

This mix is special because as the inevitable fell upon us in the form of rain, and dust storms swept across Esplanade in fearful anticipation of the impending precipitation, I was lucky enough to choose and play songs perfectly appropriate songs, before we got drenched. Songs by Justin Martin which Encouraged our dance floor to remember that the "sun will rise again" and that some storms weren't meant to break you, no, they were "meant to build you!"

And as the dust cleared, the Bubbles and Bass dance floor filled itself with the courageous and those who braved the elements were rightly rewarded with champagne infused Bubbles. and Bass.

If you missed out, don't worry. It was better next year.

Lightning in a Bottle is hands down my favorite festival! Playing aboard the Kuker art car is a unique experience, not only in the fantastic design of the car itself, but in the way it moves when the crowd gets rowdy! This set definitely has some mistakes in it, but if you've ever tried to play aboard a bouncing art car, you'll understand how hard it is to execute a perfect set!

The car and its crew are staples of LiB, and true to its form, the Kuker chases away all bad vibes with its rockin' sound, snow machines, and fire effects! Big love to the Kuker Fam for having me play for them not just once but twice this year!

It's been a while since I posted a mix...Several years ago, I was part of a very special night. LOST was an outlet for me to connect with my friends, community, and music on a monthly basis. Started with my best friend Sean Majors, we aimed to create a showcase that made our family the headliners in front of our own community—the people we saw week in and week out at various house nights in Seattle. Being part of this night was the crowning achievement of my almost 3 decade long DJ career. At the end, I felt we told a story with a proper beginning and a heartfelt end, leaving all my artistic energy on the Monkey Loft dancefloor. For those who experienced it, thank you for being part of our family, our commune, our sanctuary.

In the end, I felt that my 27-year journey took its toll on my mind, body and soul. The analogy that comes to me lately is that DJing is akin to human space travel. One can only survive in orbit for so long before the conditions of weightlessness start to deteriorate your body. Playing a great set at Monkey Loft leaves you feeling weightless, on cloud nine, and it's hard to come down to earth due to the levity provided by the energy that rises from the dancefloor. At the end of LOST, I felt it was mandatory to come back to earth, recharge my soul, get in touch with my spirit, and most importantly, give all my energy to my family.

On July 19th, 2024, I had the opportunity to play a set on the Monkey Loft Deck for Space Yacht, the best place to DJ in Seattle. I realized the gravity of the set I was about to play and practiced for weeks on end, knowing that the Monkey Loft dancefloor required my best. This new mix is my live set from that night, and I am very happy with it. Little did I know that it took a Space Yacht to propel my "Return To Orbit." Back to the place I feel most comfortable, DJing in front of my favorite crowd in the world—the Seattle faithful dancers.

Thank you to Tony H. for providing the ship, Seattle for providing the space, and most importantly, my fiancée, Andrea Perez, for giving me the fuel to create this mix.I love you all and look forward to sharing many more dancefloors with you in the years to come.
