'Wintermute' is a tribute to the Artificial Intelligence in William Gibson's masterpiece 'Neuromancer'. This being is half of a super-AI, far more intelligent than humans, and was therefore constrained in what it can do. Software barriers block its ability to make long term plans and maintain a stable identity. Its other half is Neuromancer, an AI capable of compiling personalities to pieces of code. Wintermute's main desire is to merge itself with Neuromancer, despite the shackles imposed on it.

This piece represents the union of both AI. Wintermute is characterised by an ambient introduction, where it shapeshifts between timbres where no clear structure exists. When it's freed and starts merging with Neuromancer, the organised being tries to resist the fusion, fearing losing its own personality constructed from all its years in isolation. Neuromancer is represented by a clear and predictable rhythm, which keeps struggling against the cold ambience of Wintermute. As the track progresses, both AIs learn how to live together, where ambience and rhythm give space to peaceful harmony.

This track was first released as a reward for the crowdfunding for F O C, a self-organised art centre in Barcelona, where the Jokkoo collective and other great art organizations have their headquarters. As this crowdfunding is over, I wanted to share with you all this track, now with a new mastering. The cover is done by Zizi Ramires, a super talented artist who also happens to be my sister. For me, the weight of the rock, sitting on top of a calm field strengthens the previously described relationship, now through a natural and organic representation.

Petr Bursa is a waxing moon in the Prague experimental electronic scene. His debut EP Heart's Halo lures the listener into an eerie, fog-cloaked landscape, drawing us with a siren-like spell, a beckoning from the sonorous darkness that brings a momentary bewilderment only to wash it away in rushes of tenderness and awe. An ephemeral, yet pressing whisper guides the listener through a liminal journey into the whirl of dizzyingly looped synthesizers, erupting into vocals as tempestuous as frail. The image of being swallowed by mists and swayed by stormy seas is not a mere poetic association, but comprises the very core of Bursa's synaesthetic imaginary. It is an image both frightening and familiar, as universal as it is intimate, expressing sharply the intense reality of a windswept present that feels increasingly impossible to navigate. Bursa’s debut offers us a frosty, melodic consolation that the hardships of self-discovery are shared, and that while the planes of waves appear endless, we never sail them alone.

Heart's Halo

@Katnzingha is a trans, multidisciplinary experimental artist born and raised in Philadelphia. Their artistic practices explore abstruse textures through sonic and sculptural materials. 

Combining their sculptural works with heavy low-end frequencies and celebratory tones they create blissfully cryptic sonic resonances that are the extended bodies of the modified objects they fabricate. Kat Nzingha uses convulsing kicks, metallic percussion, and hyper-processed textures to design sound, and distinct repetitive techniques, industrial materials, and elongated forms in their sculptural works. 

After releasing an EP, "Angeltribe" on London @TT_label in 2020, and "Vorphic Skin" on @Toothgrinderpress in 2023, Kat Nzingha released the album "Grind" on @Angeltribe.XTL .Shorty after, they released “RIM” under the artist name “@BRYYA” on the label formfourm which consists of heavy focused sound design techniques.

The original concept is to create a collective piece that embodies samples from our childhood memories.
We're thinking of using random emotional samples and even coming up with some totally random pseudonyms to add an element of anonymity and playfulness.
We want to feel totally free to explore and create something that represents the whole concept of this compilation.

We wish this project to be a chance for everyone to step out of their comfort zones and try something new. It's a chance for us to come together and create something really special, something that's greater than the sum of its parts.
