Letting go has been crucial for us in defining our sound and bonding as a band. 

It’s about how the decision to let go can be painful, because we hang on to people or situations. Although sometimes it’s inevitable to let go, in order to grow and to make space for something new.

Creating Honestly was a labor of love, from the first words, to what you hear today. I’ve lived many lives since first writing this album four years ago. I wrote Honestly during a time in my life when I felt lost and directionless.
I was anxiously anticipating an uncertain future while desperately clinging to past sureties.
Now, I look back and see how much I’ve been able to grow, heal, and love through the creative process.
The more I listen to Honestly, the more I realize how intimately interconnected these songs are with each other.
It turns out, the music I wrote during that uncertain time helped me build deeper friendships, stronger relationships, and live in an wonderful reality where I get to pursue my dreams. I am grateful for every note written, every joke made, every tear cried, and every moment spent creating.
I will hold these memories close to my heart forever.

Funny how when I first wrote Honestly, I hadn’t met half the people who would help grow this project into what it is today.
This album would not be complete without the dedication of so many supportive people, both to making music and to helping me fulfill this dream.

Dave Barnes is a Nashville-based singer/songwriter who has found sustained success both as a recording artist and songwriter for multiple acts across pop, CCM, and country music. Having already established himself with several well-received independent albums, Barnes made his major-label debut in 2008 with Me and You and the World. His easygoing style blended mainstream rock with singer/songwriter storytelling and spiritual themes, helping 2010's What We Want, What We Get notch prominent placements on Billboard's pop, rock, and Christian charts. The following decade saw Barnes win a Dove Award, launch his own label, and release a pair of Christmas albums. He has remained prolific with albums like 2020's Dreaming in Electric Blue and 2023's Featherbrained Wealth Motel, and hosts his own podcast.
