Overview

“Truthahn” is the third single from dutch-canadian electronic music producer apaull’s second album, Homogeny. apaull’s house version is accompanied by a straight-ahead, but swirling Mike Opani techno remix. The 9 track LP, which will be released on 28 February 2025, was executive produced by Abe Duque and is on the furnace room records label. 

“Truthahn” was written in Florida, during American thanksgiving (the track title is German for turkey). The track is a mutual indictment of political vacuity and our inability to recognize it. Dazed and confused we stumble, led by mentally displaced leaders, propped up by the unseen machine that over promises and then under-delivers. We think we have a choice. We don’t. Or, is there a new light at the end of the tunnel? The original mix features a slightly detuned piano and hollowed out bass line that persistently drives the track along. It dips it toes in both synth wave and indie dance. It is ready for the dance floor.

Mike Opani is Michael Paino’s (and his recognizable pseudonym CATIVO) techno alter ego. Approaching 30 years of creating and DJing electronic music, Mike’s first successes were with drum and bass, including productions that worked their way onto “John Peel sessions” and a very much in demand DJ, touring extensively throughout Europe. He started producing techno in 2015 and this has included various EPs and albums on labels including: MT-Music, Freshcut, Original Traxx and Evosonic Records. Opani takes the original mix of “Truthahn” and plops it onto a 4am dance floor, driving techno with parts hypnosis.

The Art
Artwork and photography are an important part of framing apaull’s music with a visual aesthetic. The cover Homogeny lettering is by famed Brooklyn based artist Al Diaz, a past Jean-Michel Basquiat collaborator. The cover art is by London, Canada artist Jay Hodgson. All apaull photographs are taken by the “baron of techno” and noted photographer Dave Clarke.

“Distorted Information” is the fourth single from dutch-canadian electronic music producer apaull’s second album, Homogeny. The 9 track LP was released on 28 February 2025, was executive produced by Abe Duque and is on the furnace room records label. apaull’s Original mix is accompanied by shorter Radio edit version and an on-point Mexico meets Berlin techno remix, by Signal Deluxe. 

Science, how it is practiced and how it is reported, has changed considerably over the last fifty years. Produced as the embers of the pandemic began to extinguish, the track is built around a sample of a public official declaring “We own the science” and reflects on how science (and academia in general) has once again been captured for political and otherwise unscholarly purposes. Musically, the track is built around a staccato baseline, feedback infused keys and string-like melody, with the aforementioned sample driving home the point. 

Signal Deluxe, formed by Valeria Rueda (Lila D.) and Jerónimo Puente (Jerga), is a cornerstone of Mexico’s electronic music scene. Since 2005, they’ve crafted a unique blend of experimental house and spacey techno, earning international recognition for their deep, atmospheric soundscapes. Their prolific output includes releases on labels like Get The Curse and their own Blaq Records, where they’ve championed both their music and Mexico’s underground. Tracks like Seaweed Smoker and the Demon Hipster EP exemplify their dynamic range and global appeal. 

Renowned for their electrifying performances, Signal Deluxe has held residencies at Berlin’s Bar25 and Golden Gate while playing festivals like Fusion and Tresor. Valeria, a trailblazer for female producers, and Jerga, a veteran of Mexico’s vinyl era, continue to shape electronic music’s evolution. Their legacy lies not just in their music but in the vibrant community they’ve built around it.
