PREMIERE: SCARLETT - Infrastructure  [Black And White Records]

Techno artist Björn Torwellen returns with new album ‘10 000 Black Seeds’ on Nachtstrom Schallplatten.
The eight-track record finds him exploring the creative fields of man-machine interaction. This work marks a welcome return for Torwellen after four years away. Before that, he established himself with a dark, dense and introspective sound and headlined major events around the world, from Nature One and Mayday to venues in Buenos Aires, Berlin and everywhere in between. He also ran his own events and founded the e-learning platform SINEE while evolving his meticulous style.

Inspired by his enduring work with modular synths, the new album was made on a refined modular system, processed into a signature sample pack and arranged in Ableton. The tracks were then mixed in analogue to create an organic, coherent sound aesthetic, meaning that '10 000 Black Seeds' is more than club-ready music; it is a document of Torwellen's own artistic development. The title cut ‘10 000 Black Seeds’ opens up with drums so heavy they will rattle walls. Glitchy claps peel off
the groove, and the atmosphere is brilliantly dark and moody. 'World(t)error' is just as big and powerful with rolling percussion and gritty warehouse vibes, until 'March Of The Transients' picks up the pace with quicker, banging drums and fizzing synths adding to the texture. There is eerie suspense in 'Alone In The Womb' with its elastic bassline and tense synth pulses, 'Under The Cloak Of Anger' has frosty static electricity running
through the middle of the high impact drums and 'All Those Who Wander' has more thumping kicks and mind-melting synth details racing along before 'Children Of The Twilight' and 'The Ghost Orchard Mythos' close out this stripped back but powerful techno album with two more fearsome cuts. ‘10 000 Black Seeds’ is a fantastic sonic homecoming that reflects every facet of Torwellen’s signature sound. ‘March Of The Transients’ and ‘Under The Cloak Of Anger’ are out on 16th February and 15th
March, respectively, with the whole LP dropping on 26th April 2024.

"Pony" is a trippy and energetic techno belter from Maison Fauna co-founder, Randall Self. Sitting somewhere on the spectrum between groovy and pounding, the track narrates the tale of a wild weekend filled with trouble and love while clubbing in London.

Maison Fauna returns with a futurist vision of New York techno, inspired by subterranean spaces and the ties that bind us—both literal and metaphorical. Featuring tracks from Merge resident Ne/Re/A, NYC broken beats club stalwart Viiaan, Fabric residents Tapefeed, and Voitax co-founder Paàl, the record encapsulates an all-night journey through subways, basements, and hazy warehouses with an international lineup of rising talent and friendly neighborhood techno snobs.

To celebrate the 25th release of its regular series, the long-standing underground label Minimood unleashes minimood025 as a massive 2x12" compound. It features ‘Aeon’ by Tobias Oliver with remix treatment from Bluetrain, AU Cheek, Die Wilde Jagd, JS, Anton Kubikov, as well as Ray Okpara. With its blend of tonal warmth and melancholic touch, this release skilfully infuses the nostalgic essence of the dub techno era and departs on a journey through the more subtle shades of euphoria. As an enthralling special the artwork has been crafted by Milan based sculptor Tillmann Lauterbach applying old plate printing techniques on Travertine stone.

The original track, 'Aeon,' by Tobias Oliver, is a stripped-back melancholic techno masterpiece. Its rolling bassline and synth punches throughout induce a beautiful state of perpetual contemplation. Die Wilde Jagd constructs his ambient ‘Last And First Remix’ as an otherworldly story from start to finish, where dreamlike drones, ripples and chirps transcend to uncharted places. The ‘Well Well Remix’ by AU Cheek hypnotizes with distorted sounds creating a murky atmosphere and offers an intriguing take on minimal techno. Focussing on a rolling bassline Ray Okpara’s ‘Lost Lovers Remix’ unfolds echoes of the synth from the original that swirl and flutter around in ghostly ways. The ‘Special Edition Dub’ is minimal dub techno in archetypical form provided by Bluetrain: his signature sound dub effects and addictive groove are irresistible. JS’s ‘Reflective Reshape’ forms a slice of blissed-out dub techno with quixotic white noise-filled depths. Lastly, Anton Kubikov navigates his ‘Frail Snowflakes Remix’ through minimal soundscapes guided by a floaty atmospheric acid bassline enhanced with robotic whispers.
