The new NEOGEN Podcast comes from our dear friend Danya.

Danya started her musical career six years ago in Greece, where she was part of the party series Entropia. In 2021, she relocated to Germany, where she now holds esteemed residencies at PAL (Hamburg) and Bunker Club (Kiel), while also being an integral member of the event series 6D.

Her evolution extends beyond the DJ booth, with a dedicated focus on refining her production skills. Her debut solo EP, Self Destructive Mechanism, made waves upon its release on Sine Space 7, paving the way for her subsequent works on labels such as Synergie, Eremit, and her latest release on Casanova Bar Records, available both on vinyl and digitally. Her tracks have earned support from prominent artists, and her DJing skills have led to performances at renowned venues like Tresor (Berlin), Rex Club (Paris), and PAL (Hamburg), to name a few.

Danya is fueled by a curiosity for innovation and a desire to push the limits of modern techno in her creations. As a DJ, she aims to provide storytelling sets that reflect her perception of this sound and what it stands for.

Fernando Sanz aka @orbeartist has been steadfastly dedicated to the craft of beats and breaks since he was a young sprout of 14 years in the sun baked southern Spanish port city of Algeciras. Under the imprint Orbe Records, Sanz has cultivated his own thriving techno community as artist and label head. Since 2014 Orbe Records has been lashing the block rocking techno of Sanz’s comrades Eduardo De La Calle and Steve Stoll, but mostly of Sanz’s own prolific moniker, Orbe. As DJ and producer Orbe keeps the mood surreal and dreamy while deploying understated drum machine patterns to hammer the platonic solids that keep his beloved community in tact.

Our own @raleigh-harmony hadn’t done a solo closing on Harmony since 2017, we were keen on putting him to the test again after such a break.
By the time he started, @ankali has already been fully engaged after the energetic, self-confident performances from Dash, Zeynep, D. Tiffany, and Ayu’s cutting-edge live set that we posted a couple weeks ago.
Throughout the night—which maintained a steady progressive, adequately trancey vibe—Raleigh added a slight mental twist to it before everyone headed off to join their loved ones around the Christmas tree.

The inaugural 12” kicks off a series of collaborative releases, featuring some of the collective’s favourite Artists. Melodic Hard Techno is where I feel truly at home. I’ve been passionate about DJing since my teenage years — first controllers, first sets, countless hours of self-taught practice. In 2023, I made my debut on the Wrocław club scene, performing at venues such as Ciało, Transformator, and Schron. Music is my escape from everyday life. Each set is a form of expression where I strive to deliver as much emotion and energy as possible.

We are beyond thrilled to mark the 100th instalment of CLOSERcast with none other than Holden Federico’s live recording of his 3-hour Masada set, to immerse ourselves into that beautiful, graceful and moving experience once more.

Philly-born, New York-based producer and DJ Holden Federico is dedicated to reimagining techno by pushing its core elements to bold new extremes. His productions carry a driving low-end energy, rich thematic layers, and dub-infused detailing, all underpinned by grit and soul. Danya is a Germany-based DJ, producer, and member of the 6D. collective with residencies at PAL (Hamburg) and Bunker Club (Kiel). Since her debut EP Self Destructive Mechanism (2023), she has released on labels such as Nyxii, Kluster, and Sine Space 7, with her first solo vinyl Sonata (2024) circulating in DJs’ record bags worldwide. She has performed across Europe in clubs such as Tresor (Berlin), Rex Club (Paris), and PAL (Hamburg). Beyond her music, she is engaged in neuroscience research, working at the crossroads of sound, perception, and the brain.

INTERVIEW
How do you balance your identity as a researcher and your identity as an artist — do they blend, or do you keep them separate worlds?

They definitely blend. My work in neuroscience constantly shapes how I think about sound, rhythm, and perception, and I can’t really separate that from what I do as an artist. I am now building a project where these worlds meet more explicitly. My vision is a platform or environment where neuroscience and sound art directly inform each other. That intersection is what excites me the most.

If someone listened to one of your sets or tracks with no context, what would you want them to feel or understand about you?

I’d want them to feel like there’s thought behind every sound, even if they don’t know the story. I try to make tracks that move and evolve, so that people can get lost in them. Even without context, it’s important to me that the music communicates some energy and emotion. I’d like people to sense curiosity and exploration. And ideally, to leave them a little inspired or reflective.

What do you wish the techno scene would talk about more openly?

I think we need to have a more honest conversation about the culture itself. The very culture that claims to empower us is still built on dynamics that endanger us. Harassment and abuse are still happening behind the scenes, and a lot of it gets quietly ignored. It’s time to question the framework we’ve accepted. I’d love to see us reset a little, put the community and the values back at the center, and open the door to more diverse and respectful voices.
