'Aggelos first approached Lurid Music with the idea for this project a few months ago. We agreed on one condition, that all proceeds be donated to refugee causes, like we did with his Black Sea EP which supported the Syrian refugee crisis. When Russia invaded Ukraine, we decided our focus had to be helping the Ukrainian refugees who were forced to leave their homes in search of safe havens abroad.

We discussed this with most contributors to the project and the consensus was that donations should strictly go to humanitarian groups and not any armament funds. There were also some thoughts about helping conflict-affected peoples in other parts of the world but we decided it was too much to tackle for a relatively small project like this one.

Therefore, donations stemming from the sales of this release will be distributed to the following humanitarian groups currently active in Ukraine or neighboring countries welcoming refugees:

‘Italorator is definitely one of my favorite shows right now. It’s a great honour to record this mix with some of what I consider classics, whether they are older or newer productions. 

I love classics, and it’s rare to find a space where you feel 100% comfortable to dive in and present your favorites from that time. There’s always a hidden gem here and there, and for me, Italorator is the new atlas for discovering them. Many thanks to Marsman and Operator for creating this space, which is so necessary to keep the movement alive and to give us the opportunity to share and learn with every new show. 

I dedicate this mix to my mom - she always loved new wave, Italo, and classic ‘80s songs. I remember when I was little, she would always put on those video cassette/DVD compilations, and I was hypnotized watching all the beautiful (and dramatic) video clips, always wanting to go back in time to live that era. I guess she has no idea how much influence this had on what I do. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy it.’

Many might not know how exciting the nightlife and music scene is in St. Petersburg. Home to a younger generation, due to its heavy student population, the Russian city has become a hot spot for headsy venues, great club nights and, of course, a host of talented DJs soundtracking them.

Sasha Balykova is one of them. Under the name Errortica she's been hosting her Melomantica show on Russia's TEST FM for the last two years, spreading her favourite finds and inviting DJs from around the world to join her. Recently she's made her first moves into production, contributing a track to Parisian music platform and label Les Yeux Orange for their Driving Safely compilation which was quickly followed up by her debut EP Safely Stowed.

To celebrate the release, we invited her to step up for today's mix, delivering a collection of wonky, melodic cuts and dubbed-out rhythms.
