For our first podcast of the series, we present to you French DJ and producer, Farazdeck. An artist with multiple releases under some of the finest deep techno labels including Circular Limited (Spain), Indefinite Pitch (China), Secuencias Temporales (Mexico) and more. 

Last summer Farazdeck shared with us an intelligently crafted live set, casting a dense haze of otherworldly sounds which set a tone over Friday night's magic. Once we were gifted with this mix we had no choice but to invite him back to the valley this June...

This mix is an exemplary musical journey exploring different realms of deep atmospheric sounds. From the outset the listener is lured in by glitchy minimal textures that slip seamlessly into thick percussive beats. The high energy finale rounds off this mix keeping you gripped from start to finish.

For home use only’ is an anti-club social, a chance to get to know someone/something. A series of transmissions purely dedicated to exploring the other side.

So here we are, number 28. All grown up, thinking we know everything and that the world is at our beck and call. Little do we know, that is exactly what we know - little. Consistently hungry for knowledge, we peruse through the audible world looking for spikes in our interest in every way or form. Sometimes knowledge finds us. In this case, it comes in a form of a single human by the name of Chris, or Chris SSG or Chris of the former musical oracle, MNML SSGS aka Minimal Sausages (r.i.p). And it shall be known from this moment forward as, Number 28. 

 
If you’re reading this then you probably have Chris to thank. He was a pivotal influence in my (and probably your) musical upbringing. For five solid years,Chris and PC (the other founding member) consistently flooded the world with incredible mixes and unbiased musical journalism through their blog. Most of the mixes are still very much alive and well to this day, in-fact they’re quite sort after. After the end of SSGS, Chris moved to Tokyo to continue to sooth the world in his own unique way, veering away from the traditional ideals of “dance” music and how it's perceived and listened to. 

 

This mix is a testament to that. Playing ambient music to a club full of people has always been a personal dream of mine (you don’t have to dance to enjoy yourself and at least there’s a chance that people will finally shut up on the dance floor). Strung together perfectly, the journey entails so many beautiful and subtle twists and turns that it perfectly fits every atmosphere. Just over two hours of pure bliss, I liken the mix to a session in an isolation tank, relaxing yet stimulating. Odd soundscapes laced with beautiful folk music all woven together with the cream of what we now know as “ambient music” (until we find a more appropriate term).

 
Chris will be doing his thing at the next ONO party (TIP! some very good friends doing some very good things/ link below). He’s joining some other great thinkers alike in bring forth of what will be an incredible night of music.

The mistake is in thinking music is about music. Music is about people. The bonds we make, the experiences we share, the conversations we have: this is the meaning and substance of it. This podcast was made possible by Nadine in Germany, Josh and Gregory in Taiwan, Eileen in Singapore, Toss in Japan, Louis in Australia, and all the producers whose music I used. It was recorded at ‘Soft Landing’, the first ambient event hosted by The Council in Singapore in July 2019. The recording reflects that context and moment, but hopefully carries to wherever you are.
