Come Day, Go Day

The Battle of Passchendaele was a major World War I campaign fought by the Allies against the German Empire on the Western Front from July to November 1917.  It is widely remembered as a vivid symbol of the horrific fighting conditions, particularly the deep mud, and immense casualties for minimal strategic gain. The village of Passchendaele was eventually captured by Canadian troops on November 6, 1917, and the nearby ridge was secured by November 10, when the campaign ground to a halt. The advance was a mere five miles, achieved at an enormous cost of an estimated 275,000 to over 400,000 Allied casualties and around 220,000 to 400,000 German casualties. The ground gained was ultimately abandoned by the British in the face of a German offensive the following year. The name "Passchendaele" has since become synonymous with the brutal and often futile nature of trench warfare during the First World War.

Hay algo especial en las primeras horas de la mañana, cuando el mundo está todavía y en silencio, y el día apenas comienza a desenvolverse. Es un momento de renovación, posibilidad y esperanza, cuando todo parece posible y el mundo está lleno de potencial.

Mi composición de piano "7 A.M." fue inspirada por mi amor por las primeras horas de la mañana. Quería reflejar mi experiencia personal de despertar temprano y los sentimientos de frescura, energía y anticipación que lo acompañan. El uso del piano como único instrumento en mi composición contribuye a crear un tono reflexivo e introspectivo que a menudo se asocia con las primeras horas de la mañana.

Para mí, las primeras horas de la mañana son un momento de inspiración y creatividad. Como compositor, a menudo me siento atraído por la quietud de este tiempo y la energía única que trae consigo. Es un momento en el que puedo concentrarme profundamente en mi trabajo, libre de las distracciones y el ruido del día.

La pieza está estructurada alrededor de un motivo repetitivo que gradualmente aumenta en intensidad y complejidad, como el desenvolvimiento de un nuevo día. Es un retrato musical de las primeras horas de la mañana y los sentimientos de paz y calma que las acompañan.

Una vez que tuve la inspiración inicial para la pieza, comencé a experimentar con diferentes progresiones de acordes e ideas melódicas en el piano. Quería que la música fuera simple y evocativa, con una sensación de espacio y apertura que capturara la sensación de un nuevo día desenvolviéndose lentamente.

Una de las cosas que encuentro particularmente fascinantes de la música es la forma en que puede capturar emociones y experiencias que son difíciles de expresar con palabras. Con "7 A.M.", quería capturar la sensación de maravilla y posibilidad que viene con un nuevo día y crear una pieza que inspire y levante el ánimo de quienes la escuchan.

Creo que el proceso creativo es un viaje profundamente personal e individual, y que cada artista tiene su propia forma única de abordarlo. Para mí, componer es una forma de conectarme con mis propias emociones y experiencias, así como con el mundo que me rodea, y crear algo que hable a los demás de manera significativa.

In 1998, pianist and composer Bruno Sanfilippo, along with his wife Ximena Contreras, established their own record label, ad21, as a haven for their creative expression. Since then, ad21 has released over 30 solo and collaborative albums in digital and physical formats, solidifying its position as a cornerstone of the neoclassical music scene.
In 2024, ad21 embarked on an ambitious new venture by opening its doors to pianists worldwide, broadening its platform and artistic outreach. Collaborating with Javier Guglielmi, ad21 aims to foster a record label specializing in neoclassical music, with a particular focus on solo piano performances.
Their vision for ad21 is to create a nurturing environment where artists can discover a supportive community and access the resources necessary to maximize their musical potential.
