We are deeply saddened and concerned with the recoveries of children's remains at Canada's Residential Schools.  We fully support, and stand by, the Indigenous communities in demanding retribution and restitution from Canada's Government and Church establishments.

"Residential schools were run by the Canadian government and churches to forcibly assimilate 150,000 First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children. Sweeping sexual and physical abuses were common and thousands of children died. According to Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, about 4,100 students were killed, but that number is likely to climb. Experts think it’s closer to 15,000." vice.com, June 24, 2021

About a decade ago two things happened: I came really close to losing a family member to a sudden brain infection and my then-wife asked for a divorce. In both cases I didn't have an opportunity to tidy things up before the door suddenly shut. I wrote this song at the time but it took awhile to unpack the suitcase. As usual, I would much rather someone else sing this than me, preferably Harry Nilsson.

Submarine has a very un-traditional mid section bridge where I essentially just shout from the top of a mountain top with a growling guitar and a bit of heart.   The change in song style and tempo at this point dis-orient because I felt like walking outside the expected lines of a traditional ABABCB song arrangement. The slow burn build has impact because it smolders, swells, intensifies and then goes boom; literally. In the end, why is the middle so behind?  I just do not know.

The important question is, What is imagination and what is reality? Are they both "real"?  An age old question, which can only be answered by an inner search.

Track shows a very delicate theme and a quite hard-riffed part, both alternating and finally flowing up to an endless symphonic dream (words are half a poem I wrote previously (not these, but lyrics below)).

Baby of the 80s, teen of the 90s, obsessed with the 60s and 70s; an FM wannabe in a Youtube world. I guess I just wasn't made for these times. I like songwriting in the Gershwin, Tin Pan Alley, Lennon/McCartney tradition. I prefer records to singles. I prefer three minutes to ten.

According to my mama, I was whistling before I learned to talk. I played organ in the Memphis garage rock scene between 2000 and 2016. I've done a lot of studio work, adding keys to records by songwriters that I really admire.

I'm now focused on recording my own songs. I have a minimal home recording set up with a laptop, microphones, cheap guitars, drums, piano, and a grab bag of other toys. All my lyrics rhyme with the truth, or at least I think they do. 

Life is short and there are more good songs then there are raindrops. Which is to say: thank you very much for lending me your ears.

Rock 'n' roll is dead, long live rock 'n' roll.
