While cities like Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Chicago all have thriving dance music communities and artists flocking to live there, the state of Arizona continues to foster its own unique scene as well. Over the years there have been a number of impressive festivals and venues that surfaced in the Grand Canyon state, while an increasing number of artists have begun their path there as well. One of those artists is Lance Fairchild.

After setting off on his mission of bringing house and techno to the masses, it's safe to say that Lance Fairchild is off to a rocking start. Behind the decks he's picked up some serious momentum, having won the Goldrush DJ competition in 2019 and opening for the likes of Chris Lake, Angelz, VNSSA, and John Summit, while also consistently delivering a number of mixes for his growing fanbase to feast on. Further, he helped cultivate the local community through the Project Atlas warehouse party series that same year as well.

In the wake of the pandemic, Lance Fairchild is now looking to stake his claim even further. Taking the time with no shows to do something productive, he began to hone his skills in the studio as a producer with his debut EP, Work Yo Back, coming as a result of that. Out now on Modarnity, this three-track smasher will induce any house lover into a shuffle frenzy wherever they might be listening from. And to celebrate the release and give us a taste of Tucson, Lance graced us with a mix for the This Is Home series. So give it a spin and get to groovin'!

Welcome to Frequency Underground! We feature the best in regional house and techno each and every Thursday. We're stoked to have Atlanta's Sam Wolfe on the show this week! Sam's been crushing it - touring all over the country, putting out releases on UMEK's 1605 record label, and has his own music festival coming up later this month. Despite all that, he's still been kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to support this channel with a mix and interview. ◾How did you come up with your dj name: I used a ton of aliases throughout my early career and then realized I have a perfectly good name to DJ with..... it was almost like how we don't like to hear our own voices on a recording... growing into your own skin and being comfortable with yourself takes time but is something you need to do if you're going to mature and develop as an artist

◾When did you start djing: I downloaded ableton back in 2010 before I ever started DJing and used that to make live mixes... so although it's true I've only been producing for 2 years I tell people I've been on this journey for since 2010 because I spent 9 years telling myself lame excuses why I could never become a music producer.. that's a mental battle all young artists have to overcome

◾Favorite dj moment: I have many many favorite DJ moments, but probably the most impactful was my first festival at Imagine fest in 2019, even though I just played the silent disco... that was my first time on a stage with 1000 people in front of me. And once I got bit by that bug it really inspired me to step on the gas and go all in on production

◾Favorite genre/subgenre to spin: obviously I love techno, but I really love progressive house, so I'll still spin all the time in Atlanta doing progressive house, & my last release "Reservoir" on Purified was a really cool experience putting out a record that isn't techno.... I won't be doing that again for a long time as I've signed exclusively with Umek and 1605, so will be putting out hard hitting techno for the foreseeable future growing with the label

◾Favorite artists: Eric Prydz, Boris Brejcha, Porter Robinson... and my reason for that is I love how their sets mostly consist of all of their own original music.... they aim to take their listeners on a journey, producing and playing the music that they want to make so I only have the utmost respect for those guys

◾Favorite labels: I am really feeling what Umek is cultivating with 1605--- that's why I am going all in and looking to develop my own unique take on techno and establish it with his label, hopefully can do something unique and different and am very grateful for all of the support early on the Southeast techno scene has given me ❤

BotoMaki - [Re]OPEN Alter - Summer Pt. 2 June 2021 - Mix Wednesday - DHM

The sound of house music has permeated speakers around the world for decades, but that isn't where Tallinn-based duo WATEVA began their story. Both members, Hugo Martin Maasikas and Kris Evan Säde, come from different spaces in the realm of music with Hugo initially finding success under the alias CARTOON and Kris signing his first record deal at the age of 13. But when they became tired of the drum and bass sound that dominated the sonic spectrum in their home country, they looked to make waves together in the realm of house music.

Since first joining forces, WATEVA has gone on to deliver a number of singles ranging from 2018's "My Love 2 U" and "I'm Talkin About" to 2020's "Cold Fumes (In Mid-June)" and "Rear View Mirror." But the best was yet to come from the duo as they geared up to release their debut album, and this year marked the arrival of their biggest body of work to date. Released back in August, Disposable Society landed for the world to consume and featured 13 tracks that were perfect for the final month of summer.

The album is littered with darker electronic soundscapes and brooding vocals that play into the thematic elements of a dim future due to the way society is currently heading. Tracks like the previously released "Cold Fumes (In Mid-June)" are welcome additions to the album, but other tracks including "Someone Better" with Emily J, "Burn Out" with Asena, and "Good Intentions" are also stunning in their own rights. You'll find yourself dancing away yet lost in your thoughts simultaneously, which is a great indicator of the lasting power that this album has.

To celebrate the release and further showcase their abilities in creating dynamic soundscapes, WATEVA swung by to spin up a mix and help show us all what the dance music scene in Estonia is all about. Speaking about their local scene they said, "Estonia is super keen on drum and bass, and that is actually why we started making music. The underground scene has crossed over to the mainstream a lot, and the same is happening with deeper house stuff right now." And quite frankly, we can't wait to see what is yet to come from WATEVA and other Estonian artists in the future.
