Alex Banks is a DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist from Brighton, UK. Praised by the likes of BBC Radio 6, Mixmag, Clash and Uncut, he makes music aimed at the dancefloor that thrills with its sonic intricacy and warm human feeling.
His prismatic sound design decorates rhythms influenced by jungle, broken beat and dubstep, while techno effects hiss and clank, and off-world IDM melodies snake around the arrangements. Bank’s sound carries instantly recognisable motifs and an impressive quality. All the while he consistently pushes the envelope with an adept technical skill and sound design which commands repeated listens.
‘Projections’ is the title of Banks’ third studio album that is set for release on Max Cooper’s Mesh in summer 2022. Characterised by his passion for analogue gear and experimentation, the work is a pure distillation of his production expertise and love for emotive synth sounds. The project includes visual collaborations with award-winning motion graphic designer Matthew Clugston and Tosh Fieldsend from renowned VFX house The Mill.
His other work includes critically acclaimed releases on Modeselektor’s Monkeytown, Ninja Tune and Hunter/Game’s Just This. Remix credits have seen brilliant re-works of Bonobo, RY-X and Raven Bush. On the collaborative front Banks is just as selective, linking with Max Cooper and Sasha respectively, the latter set for an April release on LNOE as part of the ‘TEN’ compilation. 
A musical polymath, when not immersed in the electronic world, Banks works as a sound designer, composing for film, TV and advertising campaigns. Notable achievements include projects for Global brands such as Nike, Heineken and Honda. 
Alex Banks is entering a fresh and exciting chapter in 2022. A master craftsman in the studio pushing his sound into inspiring new directions, he'll augment the eclectic  'Projections' project on Mesh with a new live AV set up, taking his creative output to a new level.

Sometime DJ, Sometimes Not

I like to incorporate lots of varieties of house music in my sets, re-editing and remixing tracks in the mix using samples and loops.


History: 

 I started DJing in 1997 on 2 belt driven decks that I bought 2nd hand. I was into dance music from an early age and was a frequent visitor to many a dance floor with a harder age (Sunnyside Up, Final Frontier, Trade, DTPM, Melt, Twisted, Sunflowers, Strawberry Sunday, Gardening Club & of course my local friday night in oxford with Graham Gold as resident, and saturdays at the Coven, where Sunnies residents were regular guests)

By 1998 I had moved to London where I was lucky enough to have a girlfriend (now my wife) and her brother who were willing to buy me 2 Technic 1210s to try and help me break into the DJ circuit.
I was fortunate to get offered a DJ residency round the corner from Turnmills,  just when Fabric was being built ,which gave me the opportunity to break into the London club scene, predominantly playing tracks with a harder, funky edge. 
By the summer of 1999, I'd relocated  to Ibiza, holding down a residency at Bar Zuka in Ibiza Town and played in Privilege  in the back room on Manumission Mondays.

When back in the UK between 2001 and 2007 I co-ran the Futur and Sunday Brunch (with my best mate and DJ partner Nick Scott) clubs in Oxford, playing a more progressive and funky sound.

House music for me is everything. It's what I listen too to motivate me, cheer me up, remind me of the good times and look to the future.

Most of the mixes available to download are from 2012 onwards, but I have included some older ones.
I pretty much enjoy mixing all forms of house music so you'll find all sorts of syles of music.
I love mixing up old favourites as much as  new material.

From early breakout hit "Phat Dope Shit" in 2002 to "Heavy Heart", a new collaboration with Skrillex and Fireboy DML, Dice has always been in the headlines. After his debut album "7 Dunham Place" on his own now long-running and well-regarded Desolat in 2008, came the major label follow-up "Underground Sound Suicide" on Ultra Music with guests like Giggs, Just Blaze, and Neneh Cherry, then the agenda-setting and club-focussed house and techno showcase that was "Love Letters" in 2018. 

Add in tens of EPs on Ovum, Minus, Cocoon, to name a few, and his remixes from everyone from Kevin Saunderson to Moby, Black Coffee to Disclosure, Warren G to Basement Jaxx, Loco Dice has always been at the beating heart of the electronic scene. 

His DJ sets, too, always brim with personality, whether in a small underground basement or on an iconic main stage at some of the world's top festivals like EDC Ultra, Tomorrowland and Coachella to name a few, playing to thousands. He has had era-defining residencies at iconic Ibiza super clubs like Circoloco at DC-10 and on the Amnesia Terrace as well at Space Miami. 

His lockdown move has been to unveil En Coleur, a label reserved exclusively for his own music produced at that time. SB Recordings followed. A new label open to all styles of dance music.

Since day one Loco Dice constantly pushes the boundaries of techno and house music production, from his appearance in 2004 PlayStation2 game "Decks & FX" to cooking up his own ideal fusions of hip hop and electronic music with his FKD side project or writing critically acclaimed runway soundtracks for Italian fashion designer Marcelo Burlon during Men’s Fashion Week in Milan for both FW20 and SS20.

Dice's distinctive fashion sense and strong visual aesthetic manifest in his collaborations with Amsterdam fashion label Daily Paper, pro sports hat purveyors New Era and in his own clothing brand Seran Bendecidos. 

All of this and his longevity prove that Loco Dice is undoubtedly an insatiable creative force most interested in the uncharted territory between genres and styles, the elements that link everything together.
