It’s back to the UK for our next guest DJ, none other than Paul Honey from @melodicbeatsmusic!

Paul first started to DJ in 1990. He experienced the early dance culture and movement which developed into the music scene of today. He played alongside some of the biggest names in the game, including Carl Cox, Timo Maas, Nick Warren to name a few. For that decade, he was resident at the two most prominent southwest clubs, The Warehouse and The Academy, which welcomed world-renowned DJ’s, and travelled the length and breadth of the UK guesting at various nights. He also promoted his own nights in Plymouth along with working with record labels including Urban Collective.

After a break to concentrate on family and career, contact with a local influential figure got Paul back into the music and the inception of the Melodic Beats podcast. Paul enlisted the help of @timfrenchdj and Apostille then formed the Melodic Beats Recordings label to put out the music he was passionate about, and this is now an outlet for established artists.

The missing piece was putting on events, which was something Paul knew well, so Melodic Beats Events was born. Even with the world turning upside down in 2020, their first event, hosting @anjunadeep’s @jodywisternoff, was a sell out and now 2021 is well and truly getting planned out.

Melodic Beats Music’s growth has surpassed expectations and support from some influential figures in today’s industry has been humbling. The love and passion for all new music of things deep, melodic and progressive has been fully re-ignited!

ABOUT OTTAWA PROG VIBES

Alain M.'s weekly podcast, Ottawa Prog Vibes, is now in its 7th year and is a recognized presence among Canadian Electronica shows. The show has two goals: showcase progressive DJ's from Ottawa (and Canada) to a global audience, and bring international DJ guests to an Ottawa (and Canadian) audience). 

Alain plays three out of every 10 shows. His mixing has been noted as particularly creative and smooth, a skill that allow his sets to be experienced as seamless stories.

An offshoot series, called Mellow Prog Vibes, is released every two weeks and focuses on more chill vibes, slightly more downtempo, to create a more relaxed vibe. It is curated by OPV resident DJ Boraa, who plays every other episode, with guest DJs playing the alternate.

Ottawa Prog Vibes and Mellow Prog Vibes are broadcast weekly on UK's Saturo Radio, New York's Chill Lover Radio and Ottawa's Blast the Radio.


ABOUT ALAIN M.

Alain M. started dj’ing in his early 20s and played a variety of clubs, big and small, in Ottawa, Montreal and Kingston. From teenage influences in progressive rock, metal and blues, and later New York and Chicago house, Dutch techno and early trance, his style has evolved towards the more melodic, infectiously rhythmic and thoughtful sounds of progressive house, with a particular fondness for Argentinian productions.

Over his 30+ years as a DJ, Alain has cultivated a signature melodic, danceable, and thoughtful style with enough surprises to keep even the most devout listeners on their toes. His live events, organized only a few times annually, are a hypotonic, transformational experience for attendees, putting the Nation’s Capital on the map for electronic music. He has organized and collaborated in a number of events including Levitar, Sunday Meet & Beat, Sit-Down Sessions, Shake my Thursday and Expeditions, attracting a thoughtful crowd who stay mesmerized by his melodic, danceable sets, always peppered with delightfully unexpected sonic elements.

Alain M. is also a guest DJ submitting regular sets to several radio and online outlets. He is a resident on X-Beat Radio (France, Belgium). He was a monthly resident on Abyss Sound Experience on QuestLondon Radio in 2021 and on UK-based Beach Radio between 2021 and 2024.

He has appeared as a guest on a number of shows in several countries including the UK, Argentina, Spain, Poland, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Peru, Turkey, Israel and the US. In Canada, he has been featured as a guest DJ at several events by Ottawa-based Music.Art.Ppl, on CHUO FM’s Vanguard Pulse Radio, on CKCU FM’s Lost In Bass and Mapped Out Radio, on Montreal’s Afterhour radio show and on Toronto’s ION radio show.

As a resident DJ of Ottawa Prog Vibes based in Ottawa, Canada, Steve plays at several of the city’s best venues and has shared the decks with some of the world’s finest Progressive House DJs and producers.

Steve has been listening to electronic music since the 1990's - sucked in by the hard sounds of early rave, and the euphoric sounds of trance. These sounds still permeate through on the tracks he selects and listens to today.

From uplifting and groovy organic house to the deeper side of Progressive sounds, Steve’s sets flow through lush atmospheres, hypnotic grooves, and driving rhythms. It’s all about emotion, connection, and energy.

I'm just a small-town Canadian boy who loves music.

I started listening to electronic back in 2000 after my brother lent me some CDs for the summer from Sasha & Digweed, Moby, and Orbital. I got into the dance scene shortly after and found a strong connection to trance with DJs like Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, and Ferry Corsten, while making some incredible friendships along the way. 

My first attempts at any kind of mixing were late-night vinyl sessions with my roommate listening to some classic trance and house and eventually putting together a simple set-up on my Mac to make some mixes for my commute. I’ve always liked the idea of being able to create a sort of soundtrack to my day-to-day and admire my friends who’ve made a career out of it as they bring such a positive impact to the lives of so many. 

I’ve spent the better part of my adult life abroad - first in China and now in Italy - and music has always been something that keeps me grounded and focused.
