This being the last episode of the year, it’s time for the traditional Top 10 tracks of the year, as selected and mixed in a set by yours truly. 

During the year 2022, I played more than 700 different tracks in my radio shows and live gigs. For the Top 10 of the year, the first thing you will notice is that my list has nothing in common with the Beatport or Spotify chart toppers. I’ve always looked for the brilliant and less-known, the undiscovered gems, the ones that are passed over but still kick ass. 

I had started with a list of 24 out of those 700. Bringing it down to 10 from those 24 was a gut-wrenching process, but here it is. The 10 tracks that I most enjoyed in 2022!

John Noizz, born in Asunción - Paraguay, and currently living in Brasilia - DF, began his interest in electronic music from a young age, which led him to delve into various styles of that era such as Big Beat, Techno, Europop and House, influenced during his adolescence and youth by the classic styles of Progressive Trance, House and Progressive House, he started to enter the world of mixing and then in 2006 be officially presented as a DJ to the public.

He has participated in private electronic parties, bars and big events such as Celebration - Py, taking him in his musical career to presentations in various cities with national and international DJs of electronic music scene.

After many years of professional djing, in 2018 he started creating his own songs and remixes. Currently, his style and musical identity are House, Deep House, Tech House and Progressive House. With his experience, sounds and rhythm he intends to give to the audience a little of what other great artists and producers have provided to him throughout his career with his mixes, and to convey the best to the dancefloor.

ABOUT OTTAWA PROG VIBES

Alain M.'s weekly podcast, Ottawa Prog Vibes, is now in its 7th year and is a recognized presence among Canadian Electronica shows. The show has two goals: showcase progressive DJ's from Ottawa (and Canada) to a global audience, and bring international DJ guests to an Ottawa (and Canadian) audience). 

Alain plays three out of every 10 shows. His mixing has been noted as particularly creative and smooth, a skill that allow his sets to be experienced as seamless stories.

An offshoot series, called Mellow Prog Vibes, is released every two weeks and focuses on more chill vibes, slightly more downtempo, to create a more relaxed vibe. It is curated by OPV resident DJ Boraa, who plays every other episode, with guest DJs playing the alternate.

Ottawa Prog Vibes and Mellow Prog Vibes are broadcast weekly on UK's Saturo Radio, New York's Chill Lover Radio and Ottawa's Blast the Radio.


ABOUT ALAIN M.

Alain M. started dj’ing in his early 20s and played a variety of clubs, big and small, in Ottawa, Montreal and Kingston. From teenage influences in progressive rock, metal and blues, and later New York and Chicago house, Dutch techno and early trance, his style has evolved towards the more melodic, infectiously rhythmic and thoughtful sounds of progressive house, with a particular fondness for Argentinian productions.

Over his 30+ years as a DJ, Alain has cultivated a signature melodic, danceable, and thoughtful style with enough surprises to keep even the most devout listeners on their toes. His live events, organized only a few times annually, are a hypotonic, transformational experience for attendees, putting the Nation’s Capital on the map for electronic music. He has organized and collaborated in a number of events including Levitar, Sunday Meet & Beat, Sit-Down Sessions, Shake my Thursday and Expeditions, attracting a thoughtful crowd who stay mesmerized by his melodic, danceable sets, always peppered with delightfully unexpected sonic elements.

Alain M. is also a guest DJ submitting regular sets to several radio and online outlets. He is a resident on X-Beat Radio (France, Belgium). He was a monthly resident on Abyss Sound Experience on QuestLondon Radio in 2021 and on UK-based Beach Radio between 2021 and 2024.

He has appeared as a guest on a number of shows in several countries including the UK, Argentina, Spain, Poland, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Peru, Turkey, Israel and the US. In Canada, he has been featured as a guest DJ at several events by Ottawa-based Music.Art.Ppl, on CHUO FM’s Vanguard Pulse Radio, on CKCU FM’s Lost In Bass and Mapped Out Radio, on Montreal’s Afterhour radio show and on Toronto’s ION radio show.

As a resident DJ of Ottawa Prog Vibes based in Ottawa, Canada, Steve plays at several of the city’s best venues and has shared the decks with some of the world’s finest Progressive House DJs and producers.

Steve has been listening to electronic music since the 1990's - sucked in by the hard sounds of early rave, and the euphoric sounds of trance. These sounds still permeate through on the tracks he selects and listens to today.

From uplifting and groovy organic house to the deeper side of Progressive sounds, Steve’s sets flow through lush atmospheres, hypnotic grooves, and driving rhythms. It’s all about emotion, connection, and energy.

Born and raised in Ghent Belgium.

I got hooked on Kick's & Hi-Hat's at the age of 13 during the early days of New Beat . At the age of 15 I started mixin house & Techno using casettes and vinyl.   

It wasn't untill I heard Sasha & John Digweed play that I made a switch to progressive,  ...ever since then I've been playing  a progressive style that has a punch combined with still melodic moments.
