Italian electronic pioneers, Alexander Robotnick and Ludus Pinsky deliver their second album as The Analog Session. 'Black Ground' is a journey into electronic music, from the early 70s to modern techno, performed only with vintage analogue synths.

Wires, cables, knobs, keyboards: they are still a vital part of The Analog Session’s improvised world. But as opposed to 2013’s ‘April’ album, ‘Black Ground’ is more dance orientated in its vision. Although most of the tracks originate from improvisation, there’s more editing work on their individual parts so that they sound more structured and danceable than usual.

Initially conceived as a video project (currently with over 320,000 hits on Youtube), The Analog Session then became an album project and finally a live performance. For Alexander Robotnick and Ludus Pinsky it’s not about being nostalgic for an era they represented but is more a progression and improvisation in the present music scene currently dominated by computers. Like the vintage analog gear the pair use, the Analog Session is a living, breathing entity. On the one hand capable of organic brilliance and on the other, breaking down at a moment’s notice.

The new album tracks range from electro-disco to techno, opening up to melody and chord arrangements throughout. ‘My Dream’ for instance is an introspective theme that is developed through different arrangements, alternating with an almost electro-house rhythm. ‘Lonely Dancers’ is made up by a sequence of synth notes whose sound transforms and becomes the backbone of a track that could be perhaps be seen as ‘minimal-electro’ whilst ‘We Are Here’ has a style that's more difficult to define. As in ‘My Dream’, here too a dream-like theme disrupts the minimal atmosphere that provides the tracks structure.

‘Space Circle’ is built on an harmonic progression of four chords, repeated throughout the track whilst undergoing continuous variations - inversions and substitutions - where the tone-colour of the analog synths fully capture the alternating soundscape. ‘Shure I Like’ injects an element of 80s synth pop with its infectious melody providing a link to the duo’s long-estbalished past but ‘Wild Electrons’ takes us further into future-space as the duo explore the sound potential of the latest (polyphonic) synth assembled by Ludus Pinsky.

Finally ‘Black Ground’, the title track, brings us back to planet Earth where the analog sound reveals its concrete, earthly nature. The CD also includes two previously digital only remixes: ‘Ascension’ (Late Night Rmx) and ‘Effai’ (Late Night Rmx).

With the cosmic rays of his Twice Around The Sun long player still reverberating around our souls, Guillaume (our favourite of all the Coutu Dumonts) is back with a fresh EP of rich and otherworldly house music perfectly pitched for the free-spirited feeling of the summer months. 
It all starts with the balmy tones of “Northbound”, which wastes no time getting into gear with a rubbery bassline and shimmering flashes of melody that flutter around a haunting vocal hook, invoking that witching hour before night falls when the heat of the sun is still radiating from the ground beneath you. 
“Inconscient Collectif” meanwhile simmers like the first light of the morning, a lilting euphoria rising from the gently filtered chord pattern before the effervescent trail of an arpeggiated synth line comes ringing through the mist.
EP closer “Erotic Skies” makes for the perfect slow-poured tonic to round off this solar cycle of a record. Across eleven blissful minutes the gently cradling beat and dubby echoes drift out as a languid spread of melodic lines unfurl on top of one another. There’s a rich tapestry of sounds at work in this luxurious cushion of a track, from the tortured ghost of a saxophone to a subtle pattering of bongos, a wild bassline tamed, a cracked synth stuck on an eternal phrase, and yet all these elements bleed into one under the principle of a track unconcerned with its destination whilst ever striding forwards.

Capturing the spirit of the season, when the electronic music community leaves its darkened rooms and heads back to nature, Feathered Sun are here with the perfect accompaniment. The six-strong collective have appeared once before when they delivered the first release on Platon Records, and now they return with another three tracks that live and breathe with an organic band dynamic that can only be wrought by many hands working in unison.


The loose-fit Berlin-based crew is comprised of NU, jO.K.e, Raz Ohara, Chris Schwarzwaelder, Iannis Ritter and Acid Pauli, and individually you may have experienced their music in many other places. As well as being peers in the music scene they are all real life friends, and Feathered Sun is the manifestation of their lives spent together jamming wherever the mood is right, not confined to rigid studio sessions and release deadlines.


This natural, easy-going atmosphere lingers all over the three tracks on the Saubohnen EP, as playful vocal intonations meet with live instrumentation over laid back grooves made without a need for hype or drama. It feels like the soundtrack to a perfect idle summers day spent amongst friends, while still maintaining a necessary bite to keep toes tapping and the vibe lively.


Legend would have it that the Feathered Sun sound is just as likely to have been crafted in a retreat in Peru as surrounded by the wives and kids, let alone in more conventional musical environments. It is that down-to-earth spirit that makes their sound so instantly familiar and easy to get along with, reflecting real life and love outside the self-less mass identity of the dancefloor.

The original recording dates back to 1995. The bass line
has been recently remade using the real TB303, because
at that time Robotnick used to play mostly digital gear.
2 - Submarine (130 bpm)
It's a kind of Ambient Break-beat. It was originally
composed for a soundtrack in the early 90s. Robotnick
had no9thing but the midi file. All the sounds were
produced last year.
3 - Disco Acha (128 bpm)
This track is quite recent as it dates back to 2008. It
represents Robotnick's renewed interest in Disco music.
Philadelphia strings give "disco flavour" to an electro-bass
groove. The title means nothing . It's a kind of " exercise in
style" but may turn useful for clubs.
4 - Minore Terzo (Electric Prince rmx) 128 bpm
Producers Lia Organa and Electric Prince met in 2006 in
a recording studio. Their passion for music and their
similar influences and style brought them together to
create the project Lia Organa & Electric Prince (LOEP).
Since then they have been producing music together.

Cement, one of the  best friends of the modern era is showing its limits.
Do you remember the fantastic architecture portrayed by  comics in the 60s, with cities raising to amazing heights , overhanging bridges connecting towers....Well, forget it.
Cement doesn't seem to be reliable in the long run. What a shame, it was such a beautiful dream, a dream called cement.
Alexander Robotnick & Ludus Pinsky once again together with their  Italcimenti project introduce  this EP containing 4 tracks:

4 - Unavoidable Crash

It's a kind of Post-Italo stuff. 
1 In "A Dream Called Cement" an Italo sequence-riff challenges a suspended pad: it's like opposing  the appeal of cement to the entropy of time.
2 "Suspended City" is a tribute to our imagination. Maybe  progress has slowed down a bit..;) But we still keep those  dreams firmly  in our mind.
3 "Step by Step" is built around a fragment of a dialogue: "Everything 's gonna be all right" - "Oh...I know you) It points to some responsibilities or at least carelessness whose consequences are emerging today.
4 In "Unavoidable Crash"a very fast arpeggio draws the fragments of instability produced by an unstable planet. Chords spring out  suddenly, acting like an alarm and creating tension until the groove is back and  the dream goes on.

It’s high time for seasoned Alexander Robotnick to tackle an Italian classic: The Four Seasons ….before seasons are definitely wiped out by the dramatically famous climate change. We grew up with a sort of mantra that went: “Seasons are no longer the same…” , a mantra that existed even before we were born. But Winter is still Winter and Robotnick’s desire has always been that of a Winterless year. The Four Seasons represents a sort of wishful thinking (by contrast).
Four ultra classic titles : Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. All of these tracks (apart from Winter) share the same origin: : they are born out of three very fast arpeggioes (32mi) where the note sequence is so quick it almost sounds like a continuous chord.
Impressionist music , without any real theme (except for Fall). Deep House that never falls into style clichés . No parallel harmonies, no one key chords, but a seamless flow that opens into modal scales and finally chill-out listening . Only in Fall the arpeggio sometimes tends to reveal itself , grows frenzied and introduces a somewhat
melancholic theme.
Fall has always been an intense and creative time for Robotnick , animated by a powerful energy flow, probably
to exorcise Winter which is looming on the horizon. In Winter the arpeggio is replaced by a sample from Wagner’s Master Singers that creates a music background with a meditative pace despite the pressing rhythmics.

Alkemya (1997) was a trio of musicians tired of spending hours sitting in front of the PC to democratically decide the direction to follow. They therefore decided to turn back to improvisation yet without giving up the opportunities provided by the use of the computer. Thanks to technology it is possible to see and edit the result of a real interaction among musicians on the computer screen.
So, Alkemyas music is substancially "live-performed", it’s a reaction against the unbearable coldheartedness of so much electronic music, generated exclusively by the process of superimposing and editing different tracks.

It can't be classed in a specific genre, fluctuating among ambient music, electronic music, trance and sampledelic music.

SAAZ AND VOICE (Nazar - Kurdistan - Iraq) : this is an Oriental lute with strings producing  a very open and distinctive  sound. Some keys are at the interval of a fourth of tone according to the tradition of a large region that includes the Middle East and part of the Mediterranean. The tunes that Nazar sings and plays are very ancient but sound extremely lively even to our modern ears.
KEYBOARDS (Maurizio Dami - Firenze - Italy): they represent the “primordial soup”, the sound of “reality as it is”, unaffected by history and culture. They provide the “glue” and  create the environment where  tunes can swim like fish in the water.
KEYBOARDS and VOCAL (Smail Kouider Aissa, Algeria) : They represent the dialogue amongst different Mediterranean cultures and the gateway to the Arab world. Smail comes from Algerian Rai.
TABLAS ( Arup Kanti Das, Rashmi v. Bhatt, India): the most typical and universally famous Indian percussions need no further presentation. Due to their precise tuning they are not only rhythmic but also harmonic instruments.
