A  lovely, warm lyric about loss. A fine musical arrangement of a super tune. A very catchy chorus!

"Melancholy Man" is a song written by Mike Pinder that was first released on the Moody Blues' 1970 album A Question of Balance. It was also released as a single in some countries, but not in the UK or US, although in the US it was later released as the b-side of "The Story in Your Eyes"
Midder critic Will Fenton described the lyrics as "a reflection on the struggles of life, with a focus on the need for inner peace and hope in the face of adversity." Music journalist Mark Murley said of the lyrics that "the song's lyrical imagery is just mysterious and indefinite enough to invite speculation over its meaning. In 1996 Pinder said of the lyrics that:

The single most incorrect interpretation of "Melancholy Man" had been that maybe it was a song about me being melancholy. I used that as a way of saying that there are different levels of melancholy, and that this was a melancholy for the whole world, because of the impending breakdown of the structure in all things that we have seen happen since the song came out, 26 years ago. What we're seeing now is just more results of what was being done then, and what continues to be done by the industrial giants and governments of the world, and the greedy little cigar-smoking guys like on the album cover". " Praise ye the Lord" is an Air form Georg Friedrich Handel's oratorio "Solomon", written in 1748.
The anonymous libretto is currently thought to have been written by the English Jewish poet/playwright Moses Mendes. It is based on the biblical stories of the wise king Solomon from the First Book of Kings and the Second Book of Chronicles.

I’m pleased to share “If the Stars and the Clouds and the Sea,” released with the always-fabulous Einstein’s Dad team. This song was inspired by my Uncle Tommy, who took his own life on New Year’s Eve, 1979 — but it speaks to anyone who has ever lost someone.

If the Stars and the Clouds and the Sea

To celebrate 2000, I took a year off to write songs, novels, plays, and stories - and I've been doing that since. At the end of my first year, I won first prize in the USA Songwriting Contest in the Lyric Category for 'Drum Machines and Beauty Queens.' This led to co-writing songs with many excellent musicians, including those represented in songs posted here. 

More recently, I was one of seven finalists in the Crisis Lyric Category of the 2021 UK Songwriting Contest for 'Lockdown Blues,' and one of nine nominees in the 2021 International Song Awards with 'Didn't the River Know' and 'Blue and Gold.'

For the past two years, I've been collaborating with many talented musicians on Kompoz. I release many of these songs here and compile the best into albums released under Captain Stormfield's Trip on Spotify and other platforms (see links below).
