I composed this piece based on a poem, and I incorporated the poetic atmosphere into the composition.

گردباد که آمد
همه چیز را با خود برد
جز درخت یادت
که ریشه در زمین داشت.


When the tornado came,
It took everything with itself,
Except for the tree of your memory,
Which had its roots in the ground.

Form:

In this piece, the form is theme and variations. This piece has a duration of 231 seconds, which is three minutes and fifty-one seconds. I used the abjad system for a Persian word from the poem " گردباد," which means tornado, for this duration. An abjad is a system of notation in which each letter of the Arabic alphabet is assigned a numerical value.

Ali Balighi, is an Iranian composer, sound designer and sound engineer. In general, his compositions are inspired by Iranian folklore and traditional music. He is primarily interested in microtonality, new approaches to instruments, electronic and electroacoustic music. Besides writing music for solo instruments, chamber ensembles, orchestras, choirs, and electroacoustic media, he has also composed music for acclaimed films such as “Light gray, Dark gray”, “When Sanam wept”, and “18 111 81”. His music has been performed in many contemporary concerts and music festivals throughout the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, Portugal, Canada, Poland, Lithuania, Belgium, and Iran. He is a DMA student at Texas Tech University.

Ali Balighi is a composer, sound designer and poet born in Tehran, Iran. You can listen to his most recent album Radif of Iranian Music: Home Is Far Away, available now on Bandcamp. Ali's compositions draw from his poems, sound explorations and experimentations with electronics. These elements combined have led to the creation of many opulent multidisciplinary works and albums. His works have been performed internationally at festivals and conferences such as Sonic Matter, New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival, Hot Air Music Festival, Tehran Contemporary Music Festival, NoiseFloor UK Contemporary Music, Research On Contemporary Composition Conference, ClarinetFest, Cortona Sessions For New Music, Audiovisual Frontiers Festival, ICSC 2022 6th International Csound Conference, and Tehran International Electronic Music Festival.

Ali Balighi, a composer, sound designer, and sound engineer, was born in Tehran, Iran. He graduated from The University of Art in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance. A passion for composition led him to pursue a Master’s degree in Composition at Texas Tech University, where he is currently a student for a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Composition.
