Great fusion performance that never loses its way in all the instrumental flavors. Superb bass lines undergirding it all.  It starts out with some Dave Grusin flavorings (which I love) then proceeds to a very individual voice. A most engaging listen.

I always love stopping by to take in your creativity and fine musicianship.

After our first collaboration https://soundcloud.com/markjbennett/an-angel-passed-by-tom-regnier-and-mark-j-bennett-1 I was pleased when Tom https://soundcloud.com/tom-r-gnier offered me a wonderful piece (with the same title) to make into a song. He suggested that I didn't think too much about the meaning, just about the feeling. This was good advice as it almost wrote itself, based around almost rhymes of the word 'deposit'. Once we had the basis it made perfect sense to invite Jussi https://soundcloud.com/juswel to add some great guitar throughout. I owe a huge thank you to Tom and Jussi for this opportunity.

The Lost Years

Seagull was kind enough to share a childhood memory with me of fishing boats with old spark plug engines, the scent of the sea, the sound of gulls looking for a meal, all of which he had put into a lovely musical portrait.  It is a different world compared to the childhood I had growing up in suburban Denver, Colorado.  Now with us both in our later years we get to meet on this wonderful platform called Soundcloud, and I asked if I could tag along with him as he shared this lovely memory. In loving memory of Massimo De Gasperi (1967-1999), a great musician and friend. There's currently no trace of his work on the internet, unfortunately, but he'd published an album with a German label a few months before passing away, if I remember correctly. It sounded way ahead of his time, and it still does today. I own a copy of it, but I'm not entitled to share it. I hope someone will do, someday.
He once called me while he was working on his album. One of his numbers' title was "Dead Hendrix", and he asked me if I could supply him with any recorded announcement of Jimi's death. He was planning to extrapolate a few words from it and use the samples on his track. Sadly I couldn't satisfy his request. I used to own dozens of Hendrix LPs and tapes, always loved and played his music, but I'd never been a collector. At the time, things like that couldn't be found on the internet.

In November 2019, a common friend asked me to join Massimo's 20th death anniversary party: "Come over and play", he said... I had to laugh, because he hadn't considered the fact that I was nearly 1000 miles away from home, and couldn't really afford to travel exclusively to join that party. So I recorded this tune, "That's Mean", very quickly, and about a week later I sent him the file. I easily found that Hendrix death announcement on YouTube, sampled a couple of sentences and used them in this song. He was so happy with it, included it in the music set for the night and told me that Massimo was very likely smiling from heaven while listening to it. I really hope this tune will make you all smile too.

Now retired from a life 'on the road' as a freelance keyboard player, I compose and record in my home studio, situated in the Carrick Hills in Southern Scotland. My music is mainly instrumental in nature and is a reflection of my life experience, sometimes real and sometimes imagined.
My influences are many and I have quite probably been shaped by listening to the very many "giants" of music, both players and composers. From classical to contemporary jazz and everything in between. My main instrument is the keyboard, whether that be piano, organ or synth. But I also play banjo, flute and percussion. I have a special relationship'with bass, whether upright or electric and use virtual and synth basses from numerous sources, but mainly Trilian by Spectrasonics.
