'Waltz For Darcey' is dedicated to my second youngest Granddaughter, Darcey. Who is a vibrant and loving child, full of energy and having the charm of a joyful spirit. This piece is hopefully going to convey the constant change of energies she uses during the course of short periods of time.  I've chosen 6/8 time and varying from major to minor keys which highlights the often sudden change of mood evident in her daily activities. 
So a 'Waltz For Darcey' also tells of my love for my Grandchild.

'The Single End' is a Jazz Fusion track and was inspired by the happy memories from my past in 1974. Just having returned to Scotland after a Year working in England and having very little money, I had to rent a single room in a Paisley tenement. This was called 'a single end'. It was extremely basis with the toilet shared amongst three flats on the same level. However I was sharing the 'single end' with my girlfriend, and although times were tough, we were always really happy. That girlfriend was to become my wife one year later and we are still together 50 years later.
So 'The Single End' is a commemoration to the joyful time we spent together in that small single room..
Also to offer my condolences on the passing of one of the great guitarists of our time, Jeff Beck. He will be remembered along with the other greats of his era. R.I.P

'While The Leaves Sing Love Songs To Me' is a Soundscape inspired by the feelings and energies received whilst strolling slowly through the forest. The sheer strength of the trees with breezes rustling through the leaves. Surrounded as if in a cacoon of changing aromas, heightening the senses and all the time hearing gentle whispers, as the trees convey their thoughts.....

Silk Reeling And Other Possibilities

'The Abbott Of Crossraguel Abbey'
In 1570 the Dunure Castle was in the hand’s of Gilbert, the 4th Earl of Cassillis, who had the reputation as a greedy man with a fiery temper. Gilbert’s Uncle had been the last abbot of Crossraguel, and after his death in 1564 the abbey lands passed on to him. This was all to change in 1565, 
when the King appointed one Alan Stewart as the lay commendator to the abbey. This allowed him to gain control over the lands, buildings, and the duties paid to it. Obviously the Earl was not amused at this usurping, and 5 years later after a great deal of political fencing , 
the Earl had Stewart kidnapped and thrown into the Black Vault of Dunure Castle. Here the poor man was roasted on a spit over a well stoked fire, until he agreed to sign away the lands to the Earl. Stewart was eventually freed and outlived the Earl, who was killed after his horse fell on him.

Whether there is any truth in the story is unclear, but the tale lived on in legend. It is said that on dark nights, when the wind blows gently through the ruin, the hideous shrieks of the abbot can be heard, as he is he is roasted alive deep within the Black Vault.
Of course there are two side to this story. The poor Abbott being roasted over the spit on the one hand and his tormentors quite happily watching till they got what they wanted on the other. 
I have attempted to cover both sides of the coin in the musical interpretation.

'Accessing The Inner Worlds' is a jazz Fusion piece inspired by a feeling of freedom to search our creative gifts on this musical journey. No contraints on having to stay with the boundaries of a given or perceived "genre". I hope we have achieved this goal and once again for me, a priviledge and pleasure to share the composition and arrangement with my friend Georg Boehme. Georg's wind arrangements and playing on this piece once again illustrating his immense skills as a player, arranger and composer.

'Light The Candle Please' is fusion of Jazz/Fusion/Rock and Ambient. Not inspired by anything in particular and just what appears from the imagination sometimes. This is definitely one of those moments.
I have replaced the original file as Georg Boehme has replaced the original Tenor Sax solo. So thank you Georg for this wonderful addition . Also doubling the brass parts near the beginninmg and also the end section. I am priviledged indeed to have your superb playing involved once again, so a big thank you.

Now retired from a life 'on the road' as a freelance keyboard player, I compose and record in my home studio, situated in the Carrick Hills in Southern Scotland. My music is mainly instrumental in nature and is a reflection of my life experience, sometimes real and sometimes imagined.
My influences are many and I have quite probably been shaped by listening to the very many "giants" of music, both players and composers. From classical to contemporary jazz and everything in between. My main instrument is the keyboard, whether that be piano or synth. But I also play banjo, flute and percussion. I have a special relationship'with bass, whether upright or electric and use virtual and synth basses from numerous sources, but mainly Trilian by Spectrasonics.
