Great track, Alan. Beautiful, almost symphonic beginning, then transitioning into a more club-oriented sound. Genres beautifully and tastefully blended. As always, fantastic performances. The bass works perfectly with the melody – fantastic unison, something I have to try. Bravo!

Is it a scary Halloween in July with zero treats and a bagful of disaster?! Everywhere I look in the outside world, countless tragedies, terror, and horror stories run on continuous loop. That’s why, in addition to family illness and death, I took a few months away to explore my inner creative world, where, to quote the psychic medium Tangina from the movie, Poltergeist, “There is peace and serenity in the light.”  🔮😆😜🖤

Electro chill NuJazz with hip hop beats and a touch of tango

I use what I consider a classic hip-hop rhythm for the hi hats that may seem dated, but it’s comforting as a familiar element, me being a fan of Boom Bap, and it adds tension like a pesky fly or a nagging thought. The composition overall is more playful than serious, but sometimes people laugh to keep from crying. Or screaming 😱

This song began as an idea Tez came up with on his guitar while on holiday not far from his home in Wales. It had such a solid form, it inspired Mark to write lyrics and come up with vocal melodies within a few days of hearing it for the first time. The two of them have written several songs like this, making them a solid songwriting source for Eclectic Collective.

Once the song had a even more solid form, Ken took added his dynamic, bouncy-groove drums to it. As soon as Ken had the drums down, Josh took his turn, adding the fretless bass and solidifying the groove. Now that the basic framework was done, Stephen added his thrilling electric guitar. Last, but certainly not least, JJ added his really cool psych synth part in the two bridges. Mark also added some awesome backing synth to it, as well, filling out the sound. At the very end of the process, Tez also dropped in the hot intro and outro solos, as well.

Once we had it all in the can, it was time to turn it over to Tez for his expert production and mix. He came up with the idea of adding reverb to the drums, as well as some other compression tricks, which he employed with subtle style.

This, as mentioned, is a great example of what Eclectic Collective can do in house with the composition and songwriting skills of Tez and Mark. The rest of us really had fun working on this one, too, of course. We hope you enjoy listenig to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

I've called it Alternative Fusion and it was inspired by just how quickly your day can change from enjoying the moment to utter chaos and pain. Accidents happen often when one loses focus and takes life for granted. For example: when washing the dishes, whilst thinking of something else and breaking a glass, and when picking up the broken pieces, cutting one's finger and can't get the blood to stop poring out. Now retired from a life 'on the road' as a freelance keyboard player, I compose and record in my home studio, situated in the Carrick Hills in Southern Scotland. My music is mainly instrumental in nature and is a reflection of my life experience, sometimes real and sometimes imagined.

From classical to contemporary jazz and everything in between. My main instrument is the keyboard, whether that be piano, organ or synth. But I also play banjo, flute and percussion.
