Highland Kites started as Los Angeles native Marissa Lamar's solo project, and was a way for her to deal with the aftermath of her beating a severe case of neurologic Lyme Disease, losing much of her earlier life in the process. Music was a way to deal with not  just the pain, but to help her heal and find a new purpose. 

Having never played or sung she started learning piano in 2014 at 26 and within 6 months played her first show. What started as just something to help her mind heal and give her an artistic outlet became an obsession and something she fell deeply  in love with. 

She shortly after met drummer, Neil Briggs through a mutual friend. Their musical styles were very different but the contrast created a sound that they both resonated with. 

They have since released 4 EPs, a full length album and a few singles, done 6 tours and over 100 shows. 

They're music has been described as "Hope Sandoval fronting Radiohead". They have a love for adding texture to songs, and creating dreamy landscapes around brutally honest and direct lyrics. 

They recently decided to leave Los Angeles and move to Nashville, TN. 

They released their latest EP "Better Off" in June 2019 via MGM Distribution. The two music videos they made (with Space Dream productions) off the EP have been making rounds in the festival circuit with multiple nominations and awards so far. 

They just finished 3 songs in the studio and will be releasing the first one (Two Halves) in Sept 2019.

Singer, songwriter, and visual artist vōx (Latin for “voice,” pronounced “wokes”) approaches all of her projects holistically—creating an engaging and thought-provoking audio-visual world where viewers and listeners can feel safe and find power in vulnerability.

As a teenager, vōx turned to songwriting as an escape from her small, conservative town. Years later, it became a therapeutic vehicle—helping the Portugal-based artist confront years of trauma and transform shame into strength. 

Drawing comparisons to such pioneering artists as Björk, Kate Bush, and Tori Amos, vōx recorded her debut EP, I Was Born, alongside co-producer Josiah Kosier in 2017. Soon after, she signed to Arts & Crafts and followed with 2019’s I Am Not a God and 2020’s This Body—both of which she co-produced with Alexander Vincent.

Inspired by the human experience, This Body is perhaps the most complete manifestation of vōx’s creative and spiritual evolution thus far—on an emotional, philosophical, and physical level. The five-song EP, which has drawn praise from the likes of Billboard, Paper, and Dazed, showcases vōx’s captivating voice and thoughtful words—accompanied by sparse, electronic notes, ethereal beats, and gentle, multi-tracked harmonies. The songs include an anthem for self-worth (“Be Bigger”), a confrontation of ancestral trauma (“How Do I Connect to the Spirits?”), and the title track, in which vōx reclaims her body with the formidable lyrics, “You were not here first. I was.”

Joseph Hylander is a songwriter in the tradition of John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, and Elliott Smith. He was born and raised in Southern California and proud to call Hawthorne, California his home. (Hawthorne = birth place of The Beach Boys).  He finds inspiration in ordinary things and can turn the mundane into a more interesting dreamscape.  His youth and education was spent touring and in the recording studio trying to perfect the art of writing, arranging, and composing music.  He picked up the guitar at the age of 12 after first hearing The Beatles, "Rubber Soul" and has now been playing for over 16 years.  He has toured as far north as Seattle, Washington and far east as Austin, Texas (participating in the South By South West Music Festival 3 years in a row) with his band E>K>U>K.  E>K>U>K was popular in the Los Angeles area and along with Joseph had songs featured in major motion picture soundtracks and on network television.  Joseph recently released his debut album, "Joseph Hylander".
