Art in art: Andriy Kyrychenko presented LP MARIA dedicated to Ukrainian artist Maria Pryimachenko

MARIA is a new LP by the Ukrainian electronic musician, sound designer and founder of the Next Sound festival, Andriy Kyrychenko. This is a release that embodies the author's endless admiration for the life and work of the famous artist and symbol of the liberation revival of Ukraine, Maria Pryimachenko.

The musician has long been studying the content of her biography and art. Andriy noted for himself the greatness of Maria's spirit, she was able to go through various difficulties in life, a serious illness and a moment of glory at the end of her years, but still retained her individual worldview and simplicity. According to the musician, the artist's lack of artistic education was able to expand the infinite potential of her imagination.

An additional reason for working on the release was the sad event that took place on February 25, 2022 in the city of Ivankiv, Kyiv region, when the Ivankiv Historical and Local History Museum, which housed the artist's priceless legacy in the form of 25 works, 10 of which were saved, burned down during the Russian bombing. With his album, Andrii Kyrychenko is trying to draw additional public attention to the planned destruction of the Ukrainian cultural code due to Russian aggression.

«The images of «naive art» appealed to amazing archetypal spaces that reproduce both the national identity and personal aspirations of Maria, faith in the power of love, goodness and all the beautiful things that surround us. In her works you can find visual attributes of rural life, Ukrainian ethnicity, strange animals, flowers and even starry celestial bodies. I feel powerful echoes of her approaches in my own philosophy and wanted to create an amalgam of sound textures that could convey it to the listener,» says Andriy, explaining what inspired him to write the album.

«MARIA» will be released on the Touched Music UK label, which published on its platforms such masters of the electronic scene as: Plaid, Autechre, Scanner, John Tejada, Dron, B12, etc.
50% of the proceeds from the sale of the album will go to Cancer Charities, another 50% will be distributed to Ukrainian Charities.

Andrey Kiritchenko is a person known among experimental music fans as author and contributor of various critically acclaimed projects, founder of Nexsound records, director of NextSound festival, producer who has contributed his significant share into the development of electronic music scene in Ukraine.

Born in 1976 in Kharkiv / Ukraine and started his musical career in 1995 as a singer / song-writer in a local rock band. Being involved mostly in experimental electronic and electroacoustic music for the last 10 years, Andrey gains recognition among the musicians and followers of this style all over the world. His recent activities range from indie-pop to free-improvisation, from melodic electroacoustic music to experimental techno.

So far he collaborated with Francisco Lopez, Kim Cascone, Martin Brandlmayr(Radian, Trapist), Anla Courtis, Jason Kahn, Jeff Surak, Saralunden, the Moglass and others; remixed by Andreas Tilliander/Mokira, Frank Bretschneider, Mikael Stavostrand, Frans de Waard/GOEM, Brian Lavelle, Scanner, Marcus Maeder and others; under all aliases he released more than 50 albums on labels such as Staalplaat, SPEKK, Ad Noiseam, Nexsound, Zeromoon, Bip-Hop, Neo Ouija, etc.; in 2006 nominated by Qwartz Electronic Music Awards in categories Discovery and Most Promising Artist, awarded in category Discovery; in 2006-2007 curates Detali Zvuku international festival for experimental music and related visual arts in Kiev; in 2007 participates in Ukrainian exhibition on the 52th Venice Biennale; in 2008-2009 curates Ukrainian magazine for contemporary music – Gurkit.
