Recordings just like this illustrate the point that 'reality', when you can catch it at its best, is the real originary 'music', and all that we humans do in that department is derivative, and much more constrained and limited. Perhaps a controversial statement, but I feel it is true. A beautiful recording, which depended both upon the sensory sensitivity and the sensitive technical skill of the recordist. Well done. Thanks for the renewed inspiration.

It's half past seven in the evening. The color of the sun is turning golden but it is still hot. It is 26 degrees outside. There are no boat owners or passengers in the harbor. There is one small building in the port where a ticket seller sits despite the fact that the last ferry of the day to Piirissaare departed half an hour ago. The water of the lake sings against the ferry's landing bridge. There are swallows nesting right under the bridge and motor boats can be heard from the lake

Summer Thunderstorm - Barbentane, France

A few minutes of light rain falls through tall cypress trees and onto the flooded forest floor, then very distant thunder rumbles through the Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida. Four clips blended from the hour-long storm, August 2022 with Usi Pro omni pair attached to cypress tree 18 inches apart, and Zoom F3 recorder.

Cervus elaphus hispanicus refers to the red deer of Portugal and Spain. It's slightly smaller than those across the Pyrenees.
The rutting season (referred to as 'brama' in Portugal) starts mid-August and goes until the end of September. 
The recording was in an area in interior Alentejo where wild boars and white-tailed deer live in big numbers and all can be heard throughout this segment.

A lovely pre-dawn chorus in southwestern New Mexico, near the Gila and Aldo Leopold Wildernesses.  Features American Robin, Cordilleran Flycatcher, Mexican Spotted Owl, Common Nighthawk, Hermit Thrush, Mexican Whippoorwill, and listen close for the barking of the Elegant Trogon.  Much of this area was burned in a wildfire in 2022.
