A veteran jazz funker, I have been listening and collecting soul, dance and jazz for the past 35 years and is a very important part of my life. Inspired by listening to some of the great grooves, mixes and re-edits that are currently out there I figured I should do something with all the music I have amassed and which I love and adore. I have never DJ'd and what I know about music I could write on the back of a cigarette packet ( I know, I know, it shows!), but thought I'd give this a go. I'm into all genres of soul, dance and nu jazz and like to dust off a little gem which never quite made it out there and give it a fresh vibe.

I started remixing in August 2011 just fooling around on Garageband with just my intuition and a little help from Youtube to get me started. I am now working on Logic 9 and am trying to produce some of my own tracks as well as remixing.Not having a musical bone in my body can be a little frustrating at times so if there are any budding, or indeed accomplished, musicians, vocalists, 12 piece horn sections (!) who have a soulful or jazzy vibe that would like to do some collaboration work then I’d love to hear from you….as I would any mastering guru’s – Jeeesh, what son of a bit*h invented that!! :))

I am truly amazed I actually have a following here on SC and that people are actually listening and downloading my stuff. To you, I would like to say a BIG thank you for all your kindness and words of encouragement, and to those DJ’s on Solar, Starpoint, SoulLegends, JFS, Soulmine, Soulpower,Stomp JazzFM, Back2Back and everyone else that has been brave enough to actually  air some of this stuff – it means a lot!

Wow!! 30 years flying the flag for the good groove and still going strong. Sadly many dj's, radio stations  and clubs have come and gone but I'm still here, listening, spinning, mixing & blending -but always appreciating quality soul music. The SL1200's might have been joined by the CDJ but the music is the same.  For me it all started in the 70's, tuning in to the1st Generation Pirates and heroes like Robbie "if it moves funk it" Vincent & Greg "your refugee from across the sea" Edwards.I soon realised that I wanted to do more than just listen and so in 1980 the DJ journey began. Then it evolved from a small sound-system to big bass and experimenting with the Technics SL 1200 MK1-the deck that changed everything. As I listened to luminaries like Larry Levan from The Paradise Garage in New York and Froggy The Funkmaster in sunny Canvey Island, Essex, I knew that mixing/remixing was a huge part of what I wanted to do. Those 2 legends might now be gone (RIP Froggy 2007 & Larry 1992), but the legacy lives on through many others. 

But DJ's take note, it's not ever about the dj's, it's always about the tunes. Lables like West-End, Salsoul, Rams Horn, Prelude, Epic, Capitol - the list was endless, the music timeles - in fact ahead of it's time. As I moved into radio in the mid-eighties, so the trips to Bluebird, Groove, City Sounds & Spin-Off's and Record Company Promos increased! 

In different ways, The likes of Paul "Trouble" Anderson, Joey Negro aka Dave Lee, Masters At Work, Bobby & Steve & Norman Jay have taken the mantle of what the likes of Larry Levan, Froggy, Tony Humphries & Shep Pettibone started all those years ago. People say that Soul Music has changed for the worse, not true, it still shines bright - with strong new blood coming through all the time. Soul music can't stand still, it has to evolve, as do the DJ's. But you know what, that much-copied sound of the good groove will often be manipulated but never surpassed.
