A fresh face to the production world, Tangerine (aka Clementine Girard-Foley) has proven that she is here to stay, with the finesse and talent of any veteran of the scene. Tangerine seems to walk two distinct yet related pathways in her musical world, on one hand she waltzes, writing beautiful contemporary classical piano compositions, as seen recently with her track ‘Spiral’ on Pure Space’s ‘Proximity’ compilation. On the other, she struts showing her darker side crafting driving experimental electronic sets which effortlessly weave between slo-mo techno, electro and drum and bass, her debut performance reaching Melbourne Music Week audiences. With a background in piano, Clem found the rigidity of performing the likes of Chopin Nocturnes to the standards of the classical music world somewhat cruel, but unquestionably stifling. Lucky for us, she found comfort in her own compositions - no doubt the free and boundless nature of electronic music production also drawing her to the dark side. In amongst it all, Clem also finds the time to build platforms for our creative community, co-founding Verve Zine, a multidisciplinary multimedia platform dedicated to promoting emerging artists. If this is just the beginning for Tangerine’s production journey, put me down for staying until the end. Tangerine joined for episode of Passing Notes 120 on 26th June 2021. Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community:
I think the most important thing is firstly finding your community. Find the people and music that inspire you. If you can't find people and spaces that make you feel comfortable and safe - keep looking, as they are out there somewhere. Once you find it, invest in your scene - if you love and nurture it, it can give back to you. Then, give back some more... Create a symbiotic relationship. Ask questions of the people you look up to, even if the questions seem silly. It's great to have a goal but don't forget to enjoy the process. Practice heaps! Be kind to yourself as you learn. There will be setbacks and times that will make you want to give up completely - don't give up! These setbacks will offer so much room for growth and learning. Listen and take advice on board but then go your own way. Stay true to what feels natural to you. It's hard not to compare yourself to others, especially in the era of social media. I find it can be empowering to accept that those thoughts are there, and try and not give them too much air time. Don't listen to people who try to make you feel shame for taking yourself seriously. There is no shame in taking your art seriously. You're never too old to start!!! Learning about genres can be cool but don't stress about them. Last, but not least... Play tracks you love, and have fun :)

Number sixty presented by someone who I've watched in awe over the last year or so, as she continues to develop and blossom. Anyone who knows Clem ( @tangerine_tangerine ) would quickly think to her humility and talent, which make her Tangerine project so special. 

Clem has become known for cutting edge live electronic sets (& producing individual tracks) which span from ambient electronica to industrial techno, somehow in a deep, classy and seamless fashion. Not only this, but her DJ sets never fail to reveal a unique and exciting curation of dance floor songs and beyond. 

Beyond her own music, Clem is currently in the works of planning absorb (alongside Kavil @absorb-label ), an extended party at the incredible new miscellania club (18th Feb - save the date!)

How do you typically prepare a mix?

I fill a stick or a bag with music I want to play. Try not to overthink it. After a while I feel like intuition is king.

Huerco S and DJ Healthy at Public Records. Refreshing club music. Love it.

It was in a bar in the suburbs using Virtual DJ. My girlfriend at the time was celebrating her birthday. We were 16. It was hype.
