~What is the inspiration and vision behind Apt E?

Apt E has always been driven by a freewheeling sense of artistic expression beyond outlets exclusive to music. A strong friendship in which we co-enabled each other’s off-kilter concepts and senses of humor catalyzed our growth through shared experiences in our community. Apt E was born as an outlet to share our visions, which manifest as conceptual pieces across sonic and environmental mediums.  

~Can you share a little bit about what you’ve included in this mix and your process?

Color, texture, inward observation, music that moves us and grounds us, favorites old and new taken from curious corners of our collection. 

It’s difficult for us to properly verbalize how these tracks come together or from where. We are constantly sharing music with one another and feeding off of each other’s energy. We both share a strong sense of what this mix is and where we wanted to take it but neither of us know how to put that down on paper. Our process is very organic and stems purely from our adoration for sounds musical and otherwise. 

~If resources weren’t an issue, what is your biggest dream for Apt E, if you could make anything happen?

Funding a full production (carbon neutral) vinyl plant locally would be a priority, plus a handful of loft/gallery/warehouse art spaces locked down in Seattle would help ensure the underground a future here. If our resources truly were not an issue, the entire world would be a space that shares the same strength in community, equality, and expression as we do in our dedicated underground spaces. Until then we’re starting small and taking it one step at a time. 

~Any exciting things coming up Apt E or as individuals?

This recording picks up right where the OFF99 cats left off, beginning around 10:30am and wrapping up sometime past 4pm... Endless love to all the party people who kept it rolling into the afternoon. Truly the best party around, and an honor to close out Apt E style. See ya next time!

Apt E - Weirdos Bush Rave vol 3

Streets 1:10 visualizes a society pushed past the limits of consumption. Aliens - which, as it turns out, look a lot like the little green beings we've always imagined them as - have completed their first successful landing on a distant blue planet. "We come in peace!" they exclaim after transcribing the local language... unfortunately they're too late to help. Those still living on the planet appear to be subsisting off of round pieces of phonographic plastic that survived societal breakdown.

A future where the impending threat of development and displacement no longer haunts us. A future that we can share, and celebrate. A future that's ours.

For the fifth year, a handful of campers ventured deep into the Washington wilderness for a weekend of explorative electronic environments with a heaping helping of heavy hanging. Sandwiched between heavyweights T.Wan and Mystery Contusion, Apt E straps on the worm-vision goggles and dives in.

We’re welcoming a special guest, with an altogether exceptional mix today. Maxwell, going with today’s moniker, S’hell - has put together a heartening and illuminating sound that we couldn’t be more delighted to share. An integral member of the community, and an architect within the Apt E organization, S’hell’s predilections and rich acumen of the craft shine brilliantly through this work. 

Like a locomotive departing and later barreling through a sanguine and buoyant fog. The set begins by building a slow, meticulous foundation, expanding into a dense and progressive marvel. What could easily evolve into an angst-ridden expedition if helmed with inadequate fervor and passion transforms into a familiar, unshakeable pilgrimage that many have yearned for. New growth, saluting the old. A sign, acknowledging a flourishing optimism not stamped out. A spiritual successor to other mixes created for Apt E under a handful of different aliases, it’s refreshing and inviting to find a common denominator amongst an artist’s growing work. Different mixes, cut from the same cloth. 

Apt E is wrapping up the finishing touches for their third release, heavily influenced by a deep love of krautrock, listeners can expect it in the near future. We can expect anything and everything from the label moving forward. S’hell, and the entire team behind Apt E are a phenomenal crew that represent the best parts of the Seattle community.

54. Apt E, Sword of Thorns, & Feu du Camp

For our third edition of Afrofuturism is NOW, we are pleased to welcome tondiue.

Seattle based producer, DJ, and record label cofounder Cameron Kelley explores the synthesis of many creative disciplines through their tondiue alias. 

As a designer and bird watching hobbyist, they have an eye and ear for the details of the natural world and environment.  This is expressed through their productions as well as DJ sets; often opting for the slow burning and meditative pace of rhythmic new age and textural ambient music, while bringing earthen timbres and human rhythm to the dance floor.  

In addition to their explorations as Tondiue, they make up one half of the DJ duo, party series, and record label Apt E alongside their friend, collaborator and roommate Max. Apt E has been making waves in the Seattle underground since 2017, starting with a series of all nighters at off-the-beaten-path locations around the city, and later developing into a record label.  Their vinyl releases focus on acts from in and around the Seattle area, and seek to provide a platform for up and coming artists. Look out for a handful of releases from tondiue in 2021, including an Apt E record from their newly formed band, Tape.
