"We liked the original version for its very creative arrangements, its complex and smart polyrhythmic figures and its weird, sparky, yet unidentified sounds. Basically, we just tried to slow it down a bit and find a different groove to it, with some other orchestrations (a human choir, a classical guitar recorded at a slow speed and then speeded up to make it sound like a harp, an autoharp, a flute sextet...). Arandel only works with lo-fi gear, no midi database or device, the aim being that we record ourselves or make from scratch every single sound we use. It's a bit more melancholic and spacier now, a haunting version of the great original 'Easy', with an almost Christmassy feeling to it."

J.Shore: The Night After is my favorite track from the album. The whole creation process was a small, lucky accident. In February 2011 I was listening to Tsuumi's "Growing Up" album (open.spotify.com/track/1vlWVCUS7B3R4vS3dbErkL) and I'm sure something got stuck to our piano themes as well. Lauri Kallio brought the track to the next level with his amazing guitar skills and live strings gave the finishing touch. I wish making new tracks would always be this easy.

Orion: The main inspiration for me was the eerie feeling of Gustavo Santaolalla's amazing track Iguazu (www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1cpR8H0sno). The Silk label guys said The Night After reminds them of Game of Thrones series but I can't get this wild west feeling out of my head when I listen to this. Even though most of the tracks on "Brotherhood" album include live strings and pianos, this is the only one which was combined of live instruments only. No plug-ins, synths or similar here, only digitally produced parts are a couple of effects.

Rubin Et Le Paradoxe are French.  So French that we can't find any promotional bio in English, but that doesn't really matter.  Certain bits of inforation coupled with listening to their music are pretty universal;  their love of Pink Floyd and the Alan Parsons Project for example and their love of off the wall dance music which permeated the late noughties. 
A stalwart of that sound and brilliant label in their own right,  Her Majesty’s Ship have called upon their services to release their next EP. As well as that, the Mighty Get a Room! have volunteered their services for remix duties.
The beginning of the track opens like the start of a Disney Film while gorgeous spoken word vocals before normal service gets resumed.  
Get a Room! remixes are rarer than hen's teeth and are genuinely and totally some of the best productions around.
It's always exciting getting the chance to write up a track as good as this.  Psychedelic, with on point production and in a language which British writers don't understand on account of being unable to speak any other language than English. That aside, this track is Killer.

In a time when Jazz music is entering a contemporary renaissance and exciting the ears and minds of new audiences, Zombie Zombie's Étienne Jaumet offers us his unique, idiosyncratic take on the sound with the sprawling “8 Regards Obliques”, his 3rd solo album with the Versatile label.

Jazz requires a certain freedom of technique, interpretation and improvisation that already matches Jaumet’s own production style and sonic aesthetic as well as his playful approach towards music.
The eight pieces that make up the new LP were very quickly recorded; Jaumet let himself be carried away by the atmosphere without focusing too much on fine details or the laborious aspects of the composition process.

The finished article is a spontaneous collection that stands out, a true mirror image of the creative process adopted by the artist. Not surprisingly, spontaneity is one of the characteristics already present in his music, in both his recorded output and his live happenings, where he leaves much room for freedom and improvisation.

“8 Regards Obliques” was recorded at the Versatile studio in less than 3 weeks with quite a basic set up: TR 808, selected synthesizers, vocals and of course the saxophone, which is a constant presence also in his previous albums.
For the mix Etienne has again appealed to the maestro I:Cube, a central figure of the Versatile story and a prodigious engineer and artist in his own right. He immediately understood that it was necessary to keep the spontaneous side alive and to not over-produce the pieces or over-edit them, being constantly mindful to retain the power in the sound and in the frequencies.

From Sun Ra with “Nuclear war”, Miles Davis in “Shhh / Peaceful” or “Theme from a symphony” by Ornette Coleman to “Caravan” (already quoted by many jazzmen), Etienne enjoyed revisiting classic masterpieces and paying tribute to his inspirations. He allowed himself only one personal and original composition, “Ma révélation mystique”.

'Gravity Remixes EP'

Crewdson is Hugh Jones, a musician and producer who, following his first two releases last year, has been hailed as one to watch amongst his ‘post-dubstep’ peers, “…blowing Jazz and glitch into the vessels sails”. ‘Dust EP’ and the full length ‘Gravity’ drew huge acclaim from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Clash, XLR8R, Time-Out, BBC, Future Sequence, Electronic Beats &amp; The FADER.

He has recently remixed for Deco Child [Ninja], Finn Peters, Bambooman and Snorkel. Aside from his solo work he is also a current member of Mathew Herbert’s ‘One Pig’ band, drummer Tom Skinner’s hotly tipped project Hello Skinny and electronic jazz outfit Saltwater Samurai.

Gravity Remixes EP is a collection of remixes of material from the album. To start proceedings Crewdson has casually pulled a brand new, punchy, vocal led tune entitled ‘Bent Measure’ out of his back pocket. Follow that, producers…

And so on remixing duty we have…..

London’s very own afro-kraut experimentation unit Snorkel take on the beatific minimalism of ‘Cascade’ and turn it into a Battles-like stomper, complete with bonus trombones. Rising star Alphabets Heaven tackles the wonderfully skittish ‘Dust Crawlers’, turning it into a soulful post-hip-hop number. Tom Skinner, aka Hello Skinny, now of the Slowfoot parish, deconstructs ‘Electric Wing’ – previously a big-beat-meets-sax-solo monster – into the intro theme for an Amiga game that never was. Bambooman brings a bit of his trademark late night dust and intimate chill to an appreciated party - ‘Trapdoor’. Meanwhile Chester’s Real brings his punchy, soulful take on UK garage to Crewdson’s own punchy, soulful take on UK garage.
