Moroccan Jajouka master Bachir Attar meets American experimental musician Elliot Shrap for a live jam of drum machines and traditional Moroccan instruments in 1990. Bachir Attar's Career spans five decades and represents the transcendental sounds of Jajouka, a small Moroccan village situated between Fes and Tangier, known for its unique mystical sound. Fans include William Burroughs and The Rolling Stones with which Bachir recorded with in 1989. A year later Attar collaborated with the prolific avant-garde jazz musician Elliot Sharp on this very Album. Both Sharp and Attar have dedicated their careers to exploring the meeting points between east and west and this album is a unique example of two brilliant minds creating a new, ultra trippy sonic experience.

This release is a first collaboration between Fortuna Records and our friends Dikraphone Records out of Morocco, a serious unearthed of lost Moroccan music. Look out for more Dikraphone-Fortuna collaborations in the future!

Ce concept mets en avant le manque qui nous rends parfois nostalgique d’un “là-bas” qui fut autre fois chez nous. Ce set a été construit à partir de morceaux qui nous font vivre cette nostalgie tout en ayant le regard rivé vers un avenir rempli d'espoir qui nous réunis tous grâce à la musique. Akuphone presents to its loyal subscribers an exclusive digital reissue of the only known 45 rpm of the multi-faceted singer Chum Kem. Recorded in March 1962, these four pieces are of an incredible originality. Indeed, its author and interpreter of Cambodian origin but who "thinks in Chinese" according to the notes appearing on the original sleeve also expresses in Italian. Close to King Norodom Shihanouk, himself a singer who has released a few albums, he has his entrances to the Royal Palace where his songs are very popular. A surprising example of hybridization proper to the so-called exotica of the mid-20th century.

Enregistrés en mars 1962, ces quatre œuvres sont d’une incroyable originalité. Asma Ghanem is a Palestinian visual artist & experimental musician, born in Damascus-Syria(1991). She has a B.A. from The International Academy of Arts-Palestine & M.A. degree in Audio-Visual Arts from ISDAT(École supérieure des beaux-arts de Toulouse)in France. Asma has participated in exhibitions, residencies and workshops in Italy, Germany, France, Austria, USA, Lebanon, UAE, Norway, Jordan and Palestine and was awarded the 3rd prize in the YAYA (The Young Artist Award- The Hassan Hourani Award, 2016)for her experimental music project (Homeland is…). She was also awarded a special mention in the Palest’in & out Festival in Paris in 2015 for her Photography project. Asma participated as a Fellow in OneBeat 2017 global music exchange, a U.S. State Department initiative managed by Bang on a Can’s Found Sound Nation that each year brings outstanding individual musicians from around the world to the U.S. for four weeks of collaborative creation, performance, and engagement with communities.
