'At Etiam' is an instrumental portrayal of various states of personal perspective, internal and mental challenges, collective psychological exploration and the conflicts between sinicism and hope.

Painted with a collage of soundscapes, guitar textures and layered synths and keys - occasional 1950s documentary samples interject with both cautionary and optimistic dialogue, laying the ground for movement through variety of suspenseful and haunted spaces. 

There are lessons in the failures of the past, where historically endeavours for scientific innovation, social equality and self empowerment haven't always come out on top.

But ultimately the journey At Etiam follows champions the unsung triumphs of optimism and determined resolve.

When a crisis arises, A gentleman remembers that life can be free and wonderful and that without gentleness and kindness life would be violent, and all would be lost. 

The Astral Jackal reminds us of the works spoken by Charlie Chaplin in the movie The Great Dictator. These words serve as the foreword of the journey a Gentleman is to face, and the challenges he is to overcome, when faced with adversity.

03:06 - The Handbook

There are many somber reminders to facing adversity. That for many, power is not a means but an end, is one of those reminders. To have to face those that take advantage of a crisis for their own purposes is disheartening and feels like all is lost, like a boot stamping on a human face forever.

Using the words of George Orwell in his book 1984, the Astral Jackal reminds that this vision of the future often seems like it is taken from the pages of an instruction manual.

In a digital society, where trivial information is accumulated every second, it often feels that half-truths and human flaws are perpetuated. Facing the reality that life itself is digitised, not unlike genes, creates mental stress in navigating the downpour of information to reach our inner intuition.

The work of Hideo Kojima in the Metal Gear series highlights the journey from mental confusion to emotional clarity. The Astral Jackal plots a route from mental fatigue processing junk data to personal actualisation in filtering the information overload and choosing our focus in passing what really matters, to us and to those listening in the future.

Hope can be grounded and hope can be realistic. There’s wisdom into removing one’s self from the role of the hero in favour of the role of the intermediator and to remember that one’s role is not necessarily to change, but to inspire change. 

Words shared by Tupac Shakur are a hopeful reminder in placing our importance in what really matters, passing the Astral Jackal’s message along to those that truly need to hear it.
