On Your Own

I wrote this a couple of days ago, sitting at my piano among the packing boxes.  It was just a flow of feelings piece.  I let it flow through my hands and out through the piano, trying to express my feelings of sadness at leaving this beautiful place and excitement at heading north for a new adventure by the sea in Northumberland. Just because we can and why not give it a try, get some sea air, walk on the beach, listen to the waves.  Apologies this is a warts and all recording on my phone with an occasional hesitation while I work out where I’m going.  I hope you enjoy the journey.

Regen, ich rufe dich!
Ström durch mich, schwemm mich aus,
Unrast und alles, was blockiert
sich dem Leben wehrt.
Spül mich frei, lös spröde Fesseln auf,
Die viel zu lange mich gebunden.
Mich drängt’s, ich suche dich.
Klär meinen Geist. Ich bin bereit.
Regen, nimm mich, wasch mich frei.

Rain, I call you!
Stream through me, wash out
Restlessness and all that blocks
that denies me life.
Rinse me free, dissolve brittle bonds,
Too long bound me.
It's urgent, I search you.
Clear my mind. I am ready.
Rain, take me, wash me free.

Wassertropfen, unzählbar verschwenderisch,
lasse ich Ton für Ton nach innen rollen
Gluckern, Tröpfeln, Murmeln, Rieseln,
Plätschern, Gurgeln, Rinnen, Fließen,
Plantschen, Spritzen, Rauschen, Gießen,
kostbar, fruchtbar, Leben spendend,
höhlen Stein, füllen Fluss und Meer.
Orchester, das nie schweigt!
Wassermassen stürzen, prasseln,
zischen, tosen, toben, branden,

Water drops, uncountable wastefully,
I call to roll inwards, tone for tone
Gurgling, trickling, murmuring, rilling,
dabbling, blobbing, guttering, flowing,
Splashing, sprinkling, rushing, pouring,
precious, fertile, life donating,
excavating stone, filling river and sea.
Orchestra which never is quiet!
Water masses falling, beating,
hissing, roaring, raving, .

Staunend neig’ ich mich in mich –
Im Nassen landen!
Wasser überall, die Quelle voll.
Das Meer in mir,
Ozean, auf den sich die Sonne legt.
Küsten, Strände, Inseln, Wind,
Schaumkronen und Firmament.
Millionen von Sternen hüpfen auf Wellen.

Amazed I bend in myself –
landing in the wet!
Water everywhere, full spring.
The sea within me,
Ocean on which the sun lies down.
Whitecaps and firmament.
Millions of stars hopping on waves.

ich dehne mich nach allen Seiten
mein Lachen in der Luft
Wasser bin ich,
fruchtbar, furchtbar, wunderbar

I stretch in all directions
my laughter in the air
I am water,
fertile, terrible, wonderful
